Classic Car Overview

This 1938 Chevrolet Master Town Sedan is a gorgeous pre-war cruiser having underwent a comprehensive frame off restoration. By the end of the 1930s, the American economy was starting to climb out of the enormous hole left from the effects of the Great Depression. Nonetheless, Americans were still a bit nervous and found themselves being more cautious when buying new cars, springing for better values over bigger luxury. Among the biggest beneficiaries of this trend was Chevrolet, the entry-level marque for General Motors. Introduced in October 23, 1937, the 1938 Chevrolet model line consisted of two distinct series the most affordable HB Master Series and the more premium HA Master Deluxe Series. While touted by Chevy as being completely redesigned, the 38 Chevrolet models were largely left unchanged especially with regards to the sheet metal and body lines. Rather, Chevrolet opted to restyle items such as the chrome grille layout as well as debuting a new-look front chrome bumper. The louvers on the hoods were also given a new design, with a ventilator arrangement. By far the most popular body style in 38 for Chevrolet was the 2 door Town Sedan models, beloved by consumers for roomy passenger cabin, large and accessible trunk, and of course its affordable price. This particular 38 Chevrolet Town Sedan comes to us from the grandson of the reported original owner who as the most recent steward cherished this car for 45 years and even oversaw its extensive professional restoration by a world-renowned restoration shop. Powering this 38 Chevy 2-door is a 216.5 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 85 horsepower when new. Exhaust exits this Chevys overhead valve straight 6 via a single exhaust system, producing a terrific sound out of the tailpipe. This 38 Chevrolet is both nicely optioned and tastefully updated. During the restoration, the electrical system on this Chevy Master Sedan was upgraded to 12 volt providing for better start up and more reliable and powerful electrical performance throughout the car. Along with the 12 volt upgrade, the generator has been swapped for a more contemporary alternator further improving overall electrical performance as well as improving battery charging capabilities. Dual chrome front bumper guards further elevate the wonderful exterior look of this classic Chevrolet and they provide a bit of extra protection to the bumper should you inadvertently bump anything. Dual chrome outside mirrors is another welcome addition on this pre-war car since they provide improved visibility while changing lanes during a cruise and while squeezing into a tight parking space at the local car show. This 38 Chevy also has been tastefully updated with the incorporation of rear turn signals, a welcome upgrade when traversing todays roads. Riding on a set of blackwall tires mounted on color-matched steel wheels and Chevrolet-branded hubcaps, this pre-war Chevy has a superb look whether youre showing it off at the car show or cruising the open road. The Fisher-built all steel body has been refinished in Regency Blue, completing the exterior look of this gorgeous car. The interior of this 1938 Chevrolet Master Town Sedan is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats along with the rear bench seat have been reupholstered in tan mohair fabric that keeps the inside of this Chevy looking stock. The matching door panels and arm rests, tan carpeting, painted dash, and steering wheel have all been restored and retain a gorgeous stock look as well. Front and rear seat belts, along with a brake light, have also been added under previous ownership for improved safety while cruising down the road. The instrument cluster retains a nice stock look and is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer. A number of AutoMeter antique-style gauges have also been tucked neatly under the dash including a temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, volt gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is finished off with an ashtray and locking glovebox. Whether youre buying your first pre-war classic car, or youre buying youre adding to your existing collection of Blue Bowties, this 1938 Chevrolet Master Town Sedan would make an excellent choice.
