For 1964, the Tempest line was redesigned as one of the new General Motors mid-size automobiles that were built on the new GM A-body platform. The Tempest name was discontinued after the 1970 model year in favor of Lemans. A completely restyled Tempest was introduced for 1968 with streamlined Coke bottle styling, concealed windshield wipers, and a return to horizontal headlights. Two door models rode on 112 in wheelbases and four-door on 116 in The 230 cu. in. overhead cam sixes were enlarged to 250 cu. in., with horsepower ratings unchanged while the 326 V8 was replaced by a new 350 CID V8. The current owner has owned this bright Red Tempest for the last 20 years. Under the hood is a 350 CID Pontiac V8 engine. The engine has been mated to a 2-speed automatic transmission. The black vinyl interior is in excellent shape as is the carpet. The power top is in very good condition as well. The bright red paint shows very well with only a few minor blemishes. 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom Hardtop. One of the few left that have not been made into a GTO. Rarer than a GTO, and only 30 less horsepower. This no-post car has been mostly located in GA and NC. The VIN plate establishes that the car was built in Baltimore Maryland, and is indeed, a Tempest Custom. Professionally painted in November 2016. Motor is a 5.7 liter (350) Pontiac, professionally rebuilt in June 2009, with hardened valve seats, so there is no need to use a lead additive in the fuel. The TH350 automatic transmission was professionally rebuilt in 2013. Rochester 4bbl carb professionally rebuilt in late 2015. Brakes overhauled in 2010. Master cylinder replaced in 2012. This Tempest has been re-wired with the Painless wiring system. Alternator replaced 2013. The high-torque starter was installed about the same time, and ensures a smooth start every time. Single CD AM/FM radio with 4 Pioneer speakers, and detachable face. Sport wheel. The original clock has been placed in storage, and was replaced with a GM tach. Seats professionally re-covered, and the original side panels were dyed at the same time. The old seat skins are in storage, as well as the old tail light lenses. The lenses were replaced with NOS (new old stock) lenses in 2012. The black carpet has been replaced and still looks like new. New Autozone gel battery. Newer tires, solid-white letter turned-in. Ball-joints, center link, rear shocks all have been recently replaced, as well as some bushings. No rust in trunk, and all of the pans were replaced in 2004. Receipts for most work since 2009. Ignition system update to point-less in late 2015, along with new wires, AC plugs, ignition ballast resistor, distributor vacuum control, coil, and fuel pump. Gas tank has just been painted, and was replaced about 7 years ago, along with the hood hinges and springs. The rear bumper has been replaced, with the old one placed in storage. The Pontiac motor combined with the Flowmaster dual exhaust system provides a sound that you will never forget. Heavy duty radiator. Heavy duty fan clutch. The radiator cap is different from what is seen in the photos, now stock, and both radiator hoses are about 6 months old. Visors just replaced. The remote vent windows provide excellent air circulation. Power steering. The wheels are 15 x 8's, and were purchased in late 2012. This car does not burn oil or run hot. Recently professionally detailed. This car is a real head-turner and gets more looks than any other car I have owned. A conversation piece where ever you go.
