Named after the powerful Mediterranean wind that sweeps through southern France, the Bugatti Mistral is both a celebration and a farewell, marking the final roadgoing Bugatti to be powered by the marques extraordinary quad-turbocharged W-16 engine an engineering tour de force that, for nearly two decades, has defined the outermost limits of automotive performance. With production limited to just 99 examples, all spoken for prior to its debut, the Mistral ranks among the most exclusive and historically significant Bugatti models ever constructed.

Appearing in its ultimate form, the 8.0-liter W-16 shared with the Chiron Super Sport 300+ produces an astonishing 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque to deliver performance figures that are predictably extraordinary: zero to 60 mph in the low two-second range, 124 mph in under seven seconds, and, in 2023, a recorded top speed of 282.05 mph, establishing the Mistral as the fastest open-top production car ever built. Yet numbers alone fail to fully capture the Mistrals significance, as its true brilliance lies in how that immense power is delivered, through a vast plateau of torque from 2,250 to 7,000 rpm, producing an almost surreal sense of effortless propulsion, as though guided by a force beyond conventional understanding.

Remove the roof, and the experience transforms entirely. The mechanical drama becomes immediate and unfiltered: the intake drawing in vast quantities of air, the turbochargers spooling with urgency, and the deep resonance of 16 cylinders operating in perfect harmony. Central to this occasion are the sculptural roof-mounted air intakes positioned directly behind the occupants. Inspired by both the Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid and the Veyron Grand Sport, they channel air directly to the W-16 while amplifying its presence to create an unrivaled connection between driver, machine, and the elements. Unlike virtually every contemporary convertible, the Mistral was conceived from the outset as a true roadster, dispensing entirely with a retractable roof and offering only a carbon fiber umbrella cover for emergency stationary use.

While its coachwork may draw inspiration from the Chiron, the connection barely lingers. This is an all-new shape, with clean and confident proportions, free from unnecessary ornamentation. The dramatic X-shaped taillights, now a defining signature of the model, simultaneously serve aerodynamic and cooling functions while creating a rear profile unlike anything else on the road. At the front, four slender vertical LED lighting elements lend a sense of technical sophistication, their form dictated as much by airflow as by aesthetics. There are no extraneous lines; every detail is carefully considered.

This philosophy continues into the cabin, where performance alone was never the sole consideration. It is a study in material and craftsmanship, combining hand-finished leather and machined aluminum with a level of execution more commonly associated with horology than contemporary automotive production. At the center of the cockpit sits one of the Mistrals most distinctive features: a gear selector carved from a single block of aluminum, housing an amber insert containing Rembrandt Bugattis celebrated Dancing Elephant sculpture an unforgettable detail that speaks to the marques historic identity.

Finished in an arresting combination of Italian Red and Nocturne, with an interior trimmed in Italian Red and Beluga Black leather, the Bugatti Mistral offered here is offered out of single ownership having covered just 321 miles at the time of cataloguing. It is further specified with approximately $325,000 in factory options and tailored finishes, and is accompanied by a copy of its window sticker, factory car cover, battery tender, tool kit, and owners manuals.

An era that began with the Veyrons redefinition of automotive performance reaches its culmination here, rendered in roofless form as a fitting conclusion to one of the most significant engineering achievements of its time. For this Mistral, however, the narrative is only just beginning. Offered with minimal mileage and an exceptional specification, it presents as a blank canvas, affording its next custodian the rare opportunity to shape its story from the outset stewarding not only a landmark in Bugattis history, but a future icon of lasting significance.
