Few automobiles have achieved the cultural permanence of the Aston Martin DB5 as immortalized in Goldfinger. While many cinematic cars have captured the public imagination, none rival the enduring mystique of James Bonds gadget-laden DB5. From the moment of its first appearance bristling with ingenious devices and quiet menace it captured the fascination of audiences worldwide, transcending its role as a mere film prop to become a cultural icon.

More than half a century after the final DB5 departed Aston Martins historic Newport Pagnell works, production returned to that very site for a strictly limited series of new examples. Created in collaboration with EON Productions, producers of the James Bond franchise, the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation forms part of Aston Martins highly successful Continuation program. Conceived as both tribute and technical showcase, these cars limited to just 25 examples recreate the cinematic legend with remarkable accuracy, incorporating a suite of fully functioning gadgets inspired by the 1964 film.

Each Continuation car is crafted to exacting standards, blending traditional Sir David Brown-era craftsmanship with discreet modern engineering enhancements. Hand-built at Newport Pagnell, every example requires in excess of 4,000 hours to complete under the advisement of Chris Corbould OBE, the Academy Award-winning special effects supervisor responsible for many of the Bond franchises most memorable effects.

Among its many features, the car integrates a modern GPS navigation system in place of the originals analog map display, complete with an evocative tracking interface. Discreetly concealed within the front fascia, simulated Browning machine guns deploy with synchronized lighting and sound effects. At the rear, a bullet-resistant shield rises from the boot, accompanied by revolving license plates, twin smoke emitters, and an oil slick system smartly adapted to dispense water.

Adhering closely to the original specification, each example is finished exclusively in Silver Birch paint applied on hand-formed aluminum body panels mounted over a correct mild steel chassis. Beneath the bonnet lies a proper 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine featuring triple SU carburetors and producing approximately 290 horsepower with power delivered through a five-speed ZF manual transmission. The truly authentic driving experience is furthered through unassisted rack-and-pinion steering, a live rear axle with radius arms, and servo-assisted Girling disc brakes.

Yet, for all its ingenuity, the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation is not road legal in most jurisdictions, existing instead as a collectors centerpiece that occupies a unique space between artifact and automobile, an object designed as much for spectacle as for motion.

The DB5 Goldfinger Continuation invites its caretaker to indulge in the fantasy it so meticulously recreates a fantasy shared by untold billions of people around the world. Executed with a level of accuracy and craftsmanship rarely encountered in the modern era, it presents the opportunity to own a newly built example of one of the most iconic automobiles in history, faithfully reimagined for a modern audience. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo26/.
