Track-focused entries into Ferraris mid-engine supercar range have propelled nameplates such as Challenge Stradale, Scuderia, Pista, and Speciale into prominence, each greeted by mass critical acclaim. But the fact the marque chose to revive the Speciale name (for the harder-edged 296) so soon in the run is testament to the particularly hallowed status of the first incarnation, the 458 Speciale.
Introduced in 2013, the model was headlined by a naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V-8. The motor span to a sonorous red line of 9,000 rpm, where its peak of 597 horsepower was delivered. The soundtrack could be best enjoyed in the 458 Speciale A (standing for Aperta) of 2014, where a retractable aluminium hardtop roof folded away in 14 seconds. Significantly, this open-air experience marked the final outing for an atmospheric Ferrari eight-cylinder engine before the turbocharged 488 GTB successor entered production.
Ferrari stated that this more powerful and lighter weight convertible was limited to just 499 units. Such scarcity, combined with revered driving dynamics, and the models significance as the final entry in the naturally aspirated V-8 lineage, ensures that the appeal of the 458 Speciale A has only grown in the 12 years since its launch. The example offered here is more appealing still, courtesy of its incredibly low use. Presented in as new condition, the car shows a mere 99 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.
Per the factory build records (available to view on file), the car was configured with Giallo Modena paintwork. This beautiful shade is accented by the Grigio racing livery featuring an Argento Nrburgring border that runs from the front panel vents, over the roof, and onto the engine deck lid. Continuing the colour theme that extends throughout, the Giallo Modena callipers for the carbon-ceramic brake discs sit behind smoked twin five-spoke wheels. Completing the exterior specification, Scuderia shields are set into the tops of the front wings while the exhaust pipe finishers are titanium.
The matching interior, meanwhile, is predominantly upholstered in Nera Alcantara but features contrasting Giallo fabric on the large-sized carbon fibre racing seats and Giallo stitching including for the Cavallinos embroidered into the headrests.
As listed in the accompanying Warranty Card, this 458 Speciale A was delivered new in Germany via Riller & Schnauck GmbH of Berlin on 27 July 2015. The car returned to the official Ferrari concessionaire for servicing in February 2018, at which time the odometer was noted as showing just 22 kilometres. A mere 74 kilometres had been covered come an October 2022 visit to Kroymans Automotive of Hilversum in the Netherlands. Its most recent service was performed by fellow Dutch official Ferrari dealer Munsterhuis Sportscars of Hengelo in July 2025, when the 458 Speciale A was recorded at 98 kilometres. An extended warranty is valid until the end of June 2027.
Offered with its owners guide folio and showing such minimal use, this beautifully specified example of the last atmospheric V-8 engined Ferrari ranks among the most prized assets of The Untouched Collection and would make for an exquisite addition to any other marque- or performance-themed grouping of cars.
