Inspired by Mercedes-Benzs iconic 300 SLR, the car which drove Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson to a record-breaking victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia, the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss sought to bring the performance and personality of the 300 SLR into the 21st century, making for the most radical roadgoing automobile Mercedes-Benz had built since the CLK GTR Roadster.
Taking things a touch further than the already exceptional SLR McLaren, the Stirling Moss restyled carbon body panels and lack of windscreen and roof helped it to shed some 200 kilograms over the standard SLR McLaren. This allowed for a 3.5-second launch to 100 km/h alongside a claimed 354 km/h top speed. When Car magazine road-tested the car in 2009, they likened the experience of full-throttle acceleration to standing on the wingtip of a 747 and cited the performance achievable only by those whose neck muscles can bear it.
This was no automobile for the faint-hearted, and only seventy-five examples would be built, all destined for VIP Mercedes-Benz customers. The vast majority of SLR McLaren Stirling Moss production was finished in Crystal Laurite Silver Metallic over a Silver Arrow 300 SL Red leather interior, recalling the color scheme of that record-breaking 300 SLR: Silver with a splash of red paint for the racing numbers, making for a sensational visual contrast. However, a handful of other colors were available.
It is believed that only four SLR McLaren Stirling Moss were finished in Designo Mystic White from the factory, with two of those cars being sold new to the collections of two separate royal families in the Middle East. This example was built to EU specifications for delivery to Germany and has enjoyed just two registered owners since new. Having been driven less than 60 kilometers from new, it is presented in virtually as-new condition throughout, exceptionally well preserved as a remarkable example of one of Mercedes-Benzs most exciting automobiles. It is presented with a host of original accessories, including two leather driving helmets, two Oakley SLR Stirling Moss-specific driving goggles, as well as protective cases for the driver and passenger tonneau covers, a cover for the wind deflector, and a silver painted blank wind deflector panel for the passenger side.
While speedster-style supercars are now seemingly commonplace today, with companies such as Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin all having had their own take on that theme, it was the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss that kick-started this trend in the 21st century. With only seventy-five examples built, these are exceptionally rare cars already, with the cars originally finished in colors other than silver being even more desirable. With most of these locked away within long-term collections, this represents a remarkable opportunity to acquire a nearly-new example in a spectacular and seldom-seen color scheme.
