Replacing the legendary Lamborghini Diablo was not an easy brief. Since its launch in 1990, the supercar had become a bedroom wall pin-up and a true icon of the SantAgata marque. Tasked with bringing the next Raging Bull supercar to life, designer Luc Donckerwolke crafted a pure and angular design that intrinsically oozed the marques DNA. As the first all-new Lamborghini built under the tutelage of parent company Audi, the Murcilago was a huge step forward for the Italian supercar manufacturer. At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the third-ever car from their stable to wear the Super Veloce nameplate. The Murcilago LP 670-4 SV was conceived to be the ultimate expression of Lamborghini performance. Track-ready and lightweight, 220 pounds were extracted through the extensive use of carbon fiber and a new exhaust system. Performance was pushed even further on the powertrain front. Engineers were able to extract 30 more horsepower from the legendary 6.5-liter V-12 through revised timing and an upgraded intake system. This grunt was fed through an automated manual six-speed gearbox and out to all four wheels. The supreme level of traction results in a 3-second zero to 60 mph time and an ultimate top speed of 212 mph. To rein in this speed, 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes clamp hard and additionally provide a weight benefit.

Just 350 examples were slated for production, designated for Lamborghinis most enthusiastic customers and those who were willing to turn the intensity up on the already wild LP640-4.
