Number 1 of just 500 produced, this SL550 Silver Arrow Edition carries the Silver Arrow paint that gives the limited run its name, a livery that recalls the Mercedes-Benz racing cars of the 1930s. It is offered with three owners and 35,500 miles. Its original window sticker shows an as-built MSRP of $111,200, with the Launch Edition package accounting for $13,725 of that.
Power comes from the 5.5-liter DOHC V8, which produces 382 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque and sends it to the rear wheels through a 7-speed automatic with touch shift. Mercedes rated the SL550 at 5.2 seconds to 60 mph. Active Body Control manages the suspension with a hydraulic cylinder at each corner, and the driver can select ride height.
The Launch Edition package is where this SL earns its place as a top-of-the-range roadster. Premium leather seats in Red are trimmed with Designo black lacquer wood. They are heated and ventilated, and Airscarf vents at the headrests warm the neck on cool evenings with the top down. A panorama roof with sunshade, Parktronic, Keyless-Go, a power trunk closer, illuminated door sills, and special edition badging round out the specification.
The electro-hydraulic retractable aluminum hardtop turns the SL from an open-air roadster into a quiet coupe at the touch of a button, and the easy-pack system helps with luggage space when the roof is stowed. The cabin also has the COMAND system with a 6-disc CD/DVD changer, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control with a smog sensor, and an attachable wind deflector. A rare, well-equipped SL with low mileage, this Silver Arrow Edition is ready for its next owner.
