2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
Convertible Car for sale by Harwood Motors in Macedonia, Ohio 44056
Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.
Classic Car Overview
Rare Roush 5-speed convertible. 43,667 original miles. Upgraded to Stage II specs, upgraded Roush Speedster interior, gorgeous wheels, new tires, spotless throughout. Beautifully maintained and ready to enjoy.
This awesome Performance White Roush Mustang convertible is one of only three built in this color combination, and with a long list of upgrades, it remains a lot of fun to drive. With just over 43,000 original miles, this convertible has always been a fair weather toy that never suffered through winter weather and thanks to a very fussy enthusiast owner, it’s sparking clean throughout. I mean, someone pulled the inner fenders and cleaned all the nooks and crannies! A subtle set of “strobe stripes” on the rockers adds a little contrast and big ROUSH callouts on the windshield and rear window leave no question about who built this cool Mustang. There’s also a blacked-out tail panel (that’s actually a magnet so you can remove it if you don’t like it), sequential taillights, as well as a custom gas cap. It remains in outstanding condition and wears 100% original paint, so you know there’s nothing hiding underneath. Want a cool Mustang? This one is ready to rumble.
The charcoal leather interior offers a long list of upgrades over a standard Mustang and even beyond a regular Roush. Those gorgeous seats with alacantara inserts and custom embroidery are from a Roush Speedster, so they’re considerably more comfortable and supportive than the factory chairs. You also get white-faced gauges with Jack Roush’s signature on them, a short-throw shifter for the 5-speed manual gearbox, and yet another badge with Jack’s signature in the center of the dash. Of course, all the Mustang’s standard features are here, including ice cold A/C, power windows, locks, mirrors, and seats, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a killer Shaker stereo system. Overhead there’s a beautiful black cloth power convertible to that’s fully insulated so this Mustang feels quiet and comfortable, not drafty and loud. There’s even a usable trunk, which is outfitted with a heavy duty rubber mat with the factory spare tire underneath that’s never been used.
The 2005 Mustang used a freshened version of Ford’s bulletproof 4.6 liter SOHC V8, and you know the guys at Roush couldn’t leave well enough alone. Modifications are modest, including a cold air induction system, a custom tune on the engine management computer, and a throaty stainless steel exhaust system, but they all add up to some fairly impressive performance—shift it correctly, and this Mustang can run away from some pretty serious hardware. There’s also a strut tower brace to help reinforce the car’s handling, and it really does make a difference. The modest modifications also mean that the Mustang’s basic reliability remains uncompromised.
The burly V8 is backed by a 5-speed manual, which is obviously the smart choice. It snaps through the gears using that custom short shifter, yet fifth gear is a tall highway gear that makes this a relaxed cruiser that pulls down decent fuel economy, too. The highly detailed chassis showcases a long list of suspension upgrades, including springs, shocks, and sway bars (the original equipment is included with the car, but who would want to switch back?). You’ll also spot custom powdercoated Roush brake calipers and slotted brake rotors that look awesome through the spokes of those 18-inch Roush alloys. The bright white floors make a great background for the hardware and as you can see, this sucker is about as clean as such cars can be (the surface rust on the rear axle and driveshaft is call “pickling” and was intentionally done that way by the factory to prevent future corrosion). It sits right, handles great, and ride quality is still quite good, making this a Mustang that’s good for any occasion. Those gorgeous wheels are unmarked and carry 275/40/18 General performance radials with lots of life left in them.
Extras include a full set of manuals, a large folder of receipts, and lots of spare parts, including suspension, brakes, original taillight harnesses, factory seat covers and foam, and lots more.
Perhaps it’s a mistake to think of future investments when talking about a car like this Roush Mustang. Instead, look at how much fun it offers at such a reasonable price. There’s more than enough performance to satisfy almost any enthusiast, and the condition is exceptional for a 15-year-old car. And thanks to the durable hardware underneath, it’s a car that needs nothing more from you beyond a warm summer day and your favorite road. Call today!
