While the tail end of the 20th century saw largely monochromatic tastes from Ferraris clientele, it was clear by the early days of the 21st century that color was slowly beginning to work its way into Ferraris supercars. Although the F50 was offered in five select colors from the factory, slightly more freedom was afforded to those lucky enough to order an Enzo new.

As one would expect, Rosso Corsa of course was most common color for the Ferrari Enzo, followed by Giallo Modena, then Nero. Amongst the additional colors possible to order, only one example was ordered with a matte colors scheme from new. It was only fitting that such a car was specified by the royal family of Brunei, a family with a rich history in ordering factory one-offs and bespoke automobiles from a variety of European manufacturers. Matte colors had yet to gain mainstream popularity and this Enzo would be the very first Ferrari hypercar delivered new by the factory in this striking color.

Work began on this particular Enzo on 8 June 2004 and it was finally completed in October of that year. In addition to its groundbreaking Matte Nero Opaco paintwork, the car was optioned in a matching Nero leather interior with gauges in Rosso and large sized seats. It was decided that the Enzo would be kept at the familys residence in London, making the occasional fleeting appearance on the streets of Hampstead, Mayfair, and Knightsbridge, and would later be brought over to the Asia-Pacific region. Seeing the car out and about at the time certainly would have caused great fanfare. Of course, the Enzos Pininfarina-designed bodywork penned by Ken Okuyama was a vast departure from the supercars that preceded it, and this cars matte paintwork only would have added to the visual panache.

Returning to Europe in 2022, the Enzo was shipped to Carrozzeria Zanasi, the same facility where all of Ferraris hypercars, Icona series vehicles, and vehicles put through the Tailor-Made program were sent. Invoices for their work total to over 110,000 and Zanasi went through all of the cosmetics of the car, replacing anything that warranted attention, including the typical sticky switches, front and rear headlights, rear bonnet glass, and a full repaint in the original Nero Opaco, amongst a handful of other smaller items.

Sold to the consignor in 2022 via RM Sothebys, the Enzo was then shipped to Canada where it has remained well-preserved ever since. At the time of cataloging, the car showed just 5,763 km from new, and it still presents brilliantly throughout. During the cars current ownership, services have been carried out by both Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo and Ferrari of Vancouver. With Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo, the cars clutch, both fuel pumps, and the left side valve cover gasket were replaced at 5,742 km in August of 2024, and the car has accrued minimal mileage since.

With color and mileage being the two most important differentiators in the marketplace for these cars today, it only makes sense that low-mileage Enzos boasting Extracampionario color schemes are the most sought after. This cars unique matte Nero color scheme undoubtably makes it amongst the most sought after examples in existence, and it would surely stand proud within the finest collections of Ferraris worldwide.
