Identifiable by a circular intake in the front bumper to feed the carbon air box of its sonorous 3.2-litre straight-six, the E46-generation CSL invariably features in conversations regarding the best BMW M3 of all time. True to its Coup Sport Leicht name, the model shed 110 kilograms with the first use of a composite roof panel on a production-specification M car, lightweight boot floor cover, fibreglass sports seats, carbon fibre door cards, and reduced sound deadening.
Just 1,383 examples were produced and only two colours were available, with this car finished in Black Sapphire Metallic and complemented by the black Alcantara interior. Part of the weight saving meant that, as standard, the radio and air conditioning were omitted. This car had them reinstalled as part of the original order.
Produced on 27 September 2003, it was taken to Burgdorf, Germany by its first owner in 2004. Maintenance invoices and proof of technical safety inspections from that time onward are present in the vehicles accompanying history file. It should be noted the cars odometer was changed at some point, with the 64,332 kilometres noted at the time of cataloguing believed to be closer to 90,000 kilometres. Cherished by a previous owner for nearly 15 years and under current ownership for the last two years, the M3 CSL is a must-have for BMW enthusiasts.
