Classic Car Overview

2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible For consignment, a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible with a title verified 50,577 actual miles. A garage kept beauty in the rarest color offered by Pontiac in 2002. There were eight colors available, but Maple Red Metallic was offered on just 3.4% of Firebirds in 2002, and this is one of 33 Y84 convertibles wearing this color Exterior This may be a first for some of us. This stunner stopped us in our tracks, even after a lifetime of admiring Trans Ams. Its especially striking because the wine colored Maple Red Metallic is matched with a white canvas top, and of all Y84 convertibles produced across the Firebird line, this is one of 56 equipped with a white top! Such a rare combination presents like a custom spec but is factory. The white top is complemented by white graphics on the car including the Trans Am emblems on the side, the stamped PONTIAC on the back, and the white screaming eagles on the front placard and rear latch panel. Outside of the color its typical Trans Am F-body in profile, a large, flat wing, fender vents, darkened wide tail lights, and 16-inch chrome 5 spoke wheels. The long nose is fronted with intake ducts and inset fog lights inside lower cladding molded for aerodynamics. The white canvas on the soft top, always a challenge to keep clean, shows some staining and a small tear, while body issues are limited to chin scrapes, flex cracking, a touched up scrape at a wheel opening, and a crack in the rocker panel cladding. Interior Tri colored door panels include silver accenting around a white insert and black componentry, handsome and sporty at same time, while the front bucket seats and rear 2+2 are dressed in white leather in good condition. Up front its the standard Trans Am palette of black, charcoal and buttons of gray plastic, beginning with a few on the steering wheel and also found on the dashboard and prominent on the center stack where the buttons fill the AM/FM/CD radio and serve as dials on the A/C panel. An efficient and easy to read gauge cluster is presented to the driver, not overwrought with bells and whistles, just the pertinent operational information and of course, speed and rpms. More simplicity is exhibited by the shifter, a T-shaped affair emerging from the center console of black plastic and housing the ever important cup holder. Black carpet covers the floor and the small but deep trunk is finished in gray cloth covered panels. There are no major imperfections on the interior and its apparent that it has been well maintained. Drivetrain Under the hood and presenting cleanly is the 5.7 liter LS1 V8, fuel injected and rated at 310 horsepower, set into motion by the 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the 10 bolt rear with 3.23 gears and Positraction. Power disc brakes are provided front and rear. Undercarriage Surface rust appears in the typical places on this clean underside thats free of dirt and errant fluids. We note some residual dampness on the rear differential, but were not seeing apparent leaks nearby. Meanwhile, the exhaust comes together from the engine, heads back through one pipe, enters a FlowMaster muffler, which lets out two tail pipes that terminate with square, chrome tips under the rear valance. Suspension includes coil springs up front and a torque arm plus coil springs in the back. Drive-Ability Trans Ams of all generations are soaring high in the collector market, so were happy to test another 02 and are familiar with the comfortable cabin, the serious V8 power, and the sublime handling, and this car delivers in spades. The low center of gravity puts this thing on rails, and the glass window behind us provides adequate visibility with help from the side sport mirrors. As a well kept car, all the functions operate as they should, including the hide away headlights. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Heres a final year Trans Am and that alone is special. But now coat it in the rarest color offered in 2002 and you have a double whammy! Trans Ams turn heads these days and are rarely seen on the road outside of car shows. This one will turn heads just standing still. Just be ready when people ask you what custom color you used to paint it! Top or top down, its a stunner! 2G2FV32G922106816 2-Canada G-General Motors 2-Firebird F-F Body V-Trans Am 3-2 Door Convertible 2-Manual Belts, Front Airbags G-5.7L LS1 V8 9-Check Digit 2-2002 2-St Therese Assy Plant 106816-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
