Classic Car Overview

2002 Ferrari 360 Modena

The Ferrari 360 Modena is an important car in the brand’s history and represents the first time that they built a car that could truly be used as a daily driver. Thanks to improvements on the interior, increased reliability and ease of servicing, the 360 became the car to have from Maranello and went on to become their best selling model at the time. This 360 Modena is a lifelong Seattle car, sold new at Ferrari of Seattle in May of 2002. Over the last 21 years, the car has been under the care of just two owners, with the most recent having purchased the car in 2006. In period, most buyers wanted to order their 360s with the newest F1 paddle shift gearbox technology, but in the long run, the gated 6-speed manual transmission like the one found on this car, has become the choice for drivers and collectors alike.

Finished in the quintessential Ferrari color combination of Rosso Corsa over Beige leather interior, this car checks all the boxes in the looks department as the 360 has always been a car that looks best in bright colors. All it takes is a quick look at the car to determine that it has been lovingly cared for over its 10,798 miles of use over the years- to the point where you could be mistaken for thinking it was nearly brand new. Built before the days of Ferrari offering countless options on their cars, this car was specced with a few crucial features that take the car to the next level. A set of red brake calipers was ordered which do a stunning job of matching the paint and the ultra-desirable Challenge Front and Rear Grilles have been added. These grilles in front fill the large intakes in the bumper and help keep road debris to a minimum going into the inlet and on the rear, help vent the engine heat after a hard drive and makes the car more closely resemble the 360 Challenge race car.

On the inside, rich beige leather resides on the seats, door cards and emergency brake handle and all of it looks to be in near perfect condition. The bolsters on these seats are known to wear pretty severely and the fact that these are not, speaks to how well the car has been taken care of. What dominates the interior of this 360 Modena is the aluminum shifter, paired to the metal shift gate which shines in the center console and just asks to be driven. A simple 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel transmits the road feel brilliantly and is a joy to hold on to while traversing your favorite road. The radio was upgraded from the factory with a 6-CD changer that sits in the front luggage compartment for those long road trips where you want to listen to some music.

The heart of the 360 sits right behind the drivers head- a 3.6 liter V8 producing 395 horsepower and 274 lb-ft of torque and can rev all the way to 8,500 RPM. One of the Ferrari hallmarks is building a car that sounds like nothing else on the road and the 360 Modena does not disappoint. This car has been upgraded with a Tubi exhaust system that enhances the sound dramatically but is not overbearing. Reaching for the 6-speed shift knob is something that every car enthusiast dreams about and with good reason. Each shift in a 360 is a wonderful experience with just the right heft to each throw of the lever, the corresponding metallic “click” that it makes while slicing through the gears is not something that can be replicated in any other car. One of the things that scares prospective Ferrari owners away is the timing belt service- made far easier on this car when compared to the previous F355 by the addition of an interior access panel. But none of that will be a concern for the new owner as the timing belts and tensioners have just been replaced, along with a fresh set of tires so you will need nothing to just get out and hit the road.

Ferrari’s 360 Modena is a unique car for the brand- it represents the intersection of the brand still building cars largely by hand and with the old world craftsmanship they were known for, while also being both fast and reliable to use all the time. It is no surprise that values of the 360 have begun to climb in recent years- manuals especially- and there is no reason to believe that will stop. If you have ever wanted to be a Ferrari owner, or have a collection of them in your garage, there are few cars that will make you smile behind the wheel more than this 360 Modena.
