2001 Porsche 911 Turbo Ferdinand Porsche and car inventions go hand in hand. In 1900, at the age of 25, he designed the first hybrid gasoline-electric car for an Austrian company. Then, in June 1934, he got a contract from Adolf Hitler to design a peoples car. That car became the Volkswagen Beetle. Component shortages led to Porsche using parts from the Beetle to work on his next car - the Porsche 356. More than 75,000 were made over the course of 15 years. For consignment a 996 version of the 911 Turbo which features a twin turbocharged flat-6 engine which generates 456hp. This was a car built for the street but all the while it was meeting specifications for a specific racing class. Plenty of curved aero lines, an aggressive front end complete with wide openings, and a large rear spoiler. A fairly intimidating car for the street, but comfortable enough to drive everyday around town once you get accustomed to the stiff clutch. Exterior Direct from Stuttgart, this beauty is bathed in Seal Gray which shows a few faults here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary that would come from normal use. Gaps are well minded all the while maintaining its super swept back lines, airflow cowls and black trimmed glass. All integrated bumpers and lighting this car remains very slippery as it knifes through the air. The convenience of a power sunroof is on top which melts into a long sweeping rear glass that shakes hands at the back with a high spoiler and continues the line in the round with dual exhaust protruding through the skin of the car at the bottom. 19-inch HRE performance wheels in black spoke are on all 4 corners, and large disc brakes can be seen through these wheels which sport red calipers. Interior Maintaining its racy sportiness but adding a touch of comfort we swing the doors and are greeted with a mixture of molded plastic rounded panels and integrated carbon fiber pulls. At the bottom is a wave of undulating carpet in dark gray. High black buckets draped in patina leather with some folds and nice signs of use as well as care, are flanked by a sculpted center console which includes more carbon fiber housing for the windows and door locks. A small ergonomic shifter sits near the dash as it swoops upward where instruments for climate controls, a CD slot and a screen for the AM/FM/Cassette/Navi and backup cam floats within more carbon fiber. In front of the steering wheel is a cascade of round instruments within more carbon fiber. Creature comforts like A/C, climate control, cruise control, power seats, power windows, power locks and behind the steering wheel stick controls have all been optioned on this car. Black carpet floods the floors, and a nice black fuzzy cloth headliner frames the sunroof. Drivetrain Shoehorned into the back of this sports car is a 3.6 liter DOHC flat-6 cylinder twin turbo that produces 456 horses. This mill has EFI and a 6-speed manual transmission. Undercarriage Plenty of ground effects panels, all clean and rust free on this car. Independent coil spring suspension all around and power disc brakes adorn each corner. Drive-Ability This car lights right up and runs smoothly at all RPMs. It is docile enough to drive easily up main street, yet powerful enough to tear the markings off the street. It gets a little happy in the rear, especially at lower gears, but has good handling, and is high on the list for creature comforts despite the fact you are basically in a street legal race car. For 2001 not bad on the technology front. There are some innovations that have come to the forefront since, but this particular car has been well maintained, driven sparingly, and has great looks to boot. Not your everyday seen Porsche, and not for your everyday person, but the right fit for the sports car aficionado.
