  • A spectacular reference grade 550 Maranello

Delivered new through Algar Ferrari of Philadelphia, chassis number 123459 was completed by Ferrari in February of 2001 as a late-production 550 Maranello. Finished in traditional Rosso Corsa over a tan leather interior, the car was optioned with red brake calipers to match its paintwork, Daytona-style seat inserts, and the 250 GT-style quilted headliner and rear parcel shelf.

With options like Daytona-style seat inserts and a quilted headliner and rear parcel shelf, it is clear to see that the original owner of this 550 Maranello intended his new car to harken back to the Ferraris of yesteryear, which is exactly what Ferrari had in mind when it introduced the model in 1996. Replacing the F512 M, the ultimate evolution of Ferraris mid-engined twelve-cylinder models, the 550 Maranello brought back the front-engined GT format, recalling such iconic models like the 365 GTB/4 Daytona and the 275 GTB.

The accompanying Carfax report shows that approximately half of this 550 Maranellos current mileage, showing just under 2,500 miles from new, were accumulated by 2006. The car would go on to remain in Pennsylvania until 2022 when it moved to California in July of 2022. Acquired by the consignor in February of 2024, the car was shipped back to the East Coast and delivered to its new home in Florida, where it has remained ever since. Ferrari Classiche certification was granted in 2024, confirming that the car presents today exactly as it did when it left the factory and retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork. The car received a major service in December 2024 which included replacement of the timing belts and all sparks plugs. This work was carried out by Maranello Autosport LLC of Eustis, FL. Shortly thereafter, the car was displayed at the 2025 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, where it was granted a Platinum award.

Looking at Ferraris currently lineup and especially the naturally aspirated 12Cilindri, it is clear that while performance and environmental regulations push performance further into the 21st century, the hearts and minds of enthusiasts are still swayed by the romance associated with Ferraris rich history. For many, the 550 Maranello perfectly straddles the worlds of vintage and modern Ferraris, offering thrilling performance in an analog driving experience in a highly usable platform.

With many 550 Maranellos driven and enjoyed as intended, finding an unmolested, low-mileage example is easier said than done, making this particular car all the more remarkable. Surely amongst the lowest mileage examples in the country or anywhere in the world, Ferrari Classiche certification and its Platinum Award at Cavallino Classic elevate this car further to a level few 550 Maranellos have achieved. A worthy addition to any Ferrari collection and truly a top-tier example in every sense, it will surely garner lots of attention wherever it goes for its incredible preservation and overall condition.
