Classic Car Overview

When Toyota threw out the conventional design rulebook in the early 2000s, they captured absolute lightning in a bottle with the first generation bB. Stateside enthusiasts absolutely fell in love with the front wheel drive version badged as the Scion xB, cementing it as a certified cult classic that still boasts a massive, dedicated following today. This particular version, however, elevates that beloved formula with a factory four wheel drive system that completely flips the script on what a compact, ultra practical urban commuter can do, pairing that iconic, aggressively boxy styling with serious year round capability.

Under the hood, this one shares the exact same 1.5-liter engine that powered the US versions, which means keeping up with basic maintenance and sourcing parts is hassle free. The motor fires right up, idles smoothly, and has plenty of pep for keeping up with highway traffic or zipping around town on a daily commute while the four speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The big differentiator here is how that power gets to the ground, with the factory four wheel drive system engaging seamlessly to give you time tested Toyota reliability with a distinct traction advantage when the weather turns messy or the terrain gets loose.

Popping the doors reveals an interior layout that made this chassis a global packaging icon, feeling incredibly massive compared to the compact exterior footprint of the car. Since it is a JDM spec, it utilizes a front bench seat and a column mounted shifter to completely open up the front row, giving you plenty of legroom and a wonderfully spacious, lounge like vibe. While the cabin retains its simple, no nonsense commuter roots, it does come equipped with all the essential conveniences you need for a daily driver. It features power windows, power folding and adjusting mirrors, a tilt steering column, clever dashboard cubbies, OEM floor mats, and a rare power sunroof that floods the space with natural light. The original equipment Toyota head unit is still nestled beautifully in the dash, and the straightforward climate control works like a charm, pumping out ice-cold AC or roaring heat on demand.

Visually, the clean, razor sharp styling of the bB showcases the lines that made the boxy shape a design standout. The exterior is finished in the stunning Bordeaux Mica paint, color code 3P2. With the exception of some scuffs, scratches, and minor wear, the exterior has aged well. The classic body lines are accented by a set of OEM window rainguards and a striking set of chrome mirror caps that give the doors a subtle premium pop. The only modification to the original look is a set of genuine, classic BBS wheels, which give the car a nice visual upgrade while keeping its functional, everyday utility completely intact.

Most first generation Scion xBs in the States have been driven completely into the ground by now, making it nearly impossible to find a clean chassis on the local market. This import solves that problem entirely, delivering a solid, well preserved example with just 61,848 verified miles and a factory four wheel drive layout that American buyers were completely locked out of. Combining that exclusive all weather grip with the added bonus of a rare factory power sunroof makes this a total standout compared to anything youll find at home. If you are looking for a reliable, well-equipped daily driver with heaps of personality, this bB AWD is ready to roll.
