Classic Car Overview

On the outside, this just looks like a beautifully built 2000 Shelby Cobra, but then everyone else on the track starts wondering why you can smoke them all. Thats because this is a Backdraft Racing Cobra. That means a 427 V8 pumping out 550+ hp, a fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, beefy five-speed gearbox, and a whole host of other goodies to make this one of the meanest Cobras youve ever laid eyes on. The Sterling Gray metallic with gray painted stripes is a modern hue interpretation of an iconic application. Underneath the skin youll see the same kind of spirit, too, but more on that in a moment. If you know the Backdraft cars, you know they take time with the craftsmanship and high-quality fiberglass bodies. So that silver paint has a smooth canvas to let the light roll along the Cobras iconic curves. And as youre checking out the body, youll see all the best of a modern Cobras speedy style with widely flared fenders, racing jack stub bumpers, dual chrome roll hoops, and proper heat shields over the iconic side pipes. And the iconic look of ten-spoke Halibrand-style wheels are done in a modern 17-inch size that lets you fit the best on modern performance tires. The interior has that cool look of classic low-back bucket seats but now with better padding and modern harnesses. Its part of an overall idea where this car takes the correct classic style but updates it for better use. You see it in other places like the thick-grip wood-rimmed steering wheel that still has the classic AC logo in the center, and the modern gearshift still is curved forward like on the original Cobras. The atmosphere is more inviting with plexiglas sun visors, wind wings, a padded dash, and full carpeting - including the trunk. But it never loses that racer style, and the mounted fire extinguisher reminds you of that. Plus, crisp VDO analog gauges fill the instrument panel with information, and thats good because a lot is going on under the hood. Sure, the engine bay has that perfect shiny appearance that goes so well with the exterior colors, and will certainly attract crowds... but this is a Cobra, and its primary mission is to be the fastest sports car around. Thats why you have Fords legendary 427 cubic-inch V8. But this classic displacement is updated on a Smeding Performance specialty motor. It starts with a Dart block built with forged lightweight pistons, moly rings, balanced 4340 crankshaft, steel H-rods, ARP bolts, roller cam, and Smeding aluminum heads. It inhales deeply through a Quick Fuel 750 double-pumper four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake. There are plenty more performance components, but we just dont have all the room (give us a call for all the details.) For now, just know that the motor has been advertised at 560hp/560 lb-ft of torque. And those header-fed side pipes do a great job of announcing this roadsters massive muscle. All this power is only at its best when you have the right components to control it. Thats why theres a stout Tremec TKO600 five-speed manual transmission feeding the BMW rear differential. On the road or racetrack, youll instantly feel the confidence the fully independent suspension gives you. In front, its a cast lower wishbone with a McPherson-style coilover strut and adjustable stabilizer bar, and the rear has an adjustable multi-link rear setup supplied by BMW. Plus, the modern grip of the Nitto Extreme ZR tires is backed up by four-wheel power disc brakes. This is the kind of powerful and sleek Cobra that will make you ask your local DMV if Quicksilver will fit on a license plate. Oh yes, its that good. So you dont want to miss this deal.
