It is powered by a 4.9-litre naturally aspirated S62 V8 engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission which drives the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. In addition to the powerful engine major suspension and steering changes improved the response and feel of the chassis because it was also the first M5 to use aluminum front suspension components and a multi-link rear suspension. At the time it was considered one of the highest performing luxury cars of all time not only because of its near 50/50 weight balance but because of its superior drivetrain and chassis. The cabin is trimmed in Caramel Napa leather accented with wood trim with dark floor mats. The factory stereo has been replaced with a Dynavin multimedia unit in the stock opening.
