Classic Car Overview
While the LaGreats name may not sound familiar here stateside, its classic and subtle styling certainly will. Sharing looks, drivetrain, and many of the same options as the Odyssey, this 2000 Honda LaGreat RL1 delivers everything the Odyssey did prior but with a flair of sophistication and refinement. Loaded with creature comforts, Honda Japan went through the effort of producing the LaGreat in Canada, shipping to Japan and selling at select Honda Clio dealerships meant for selling Hondas luxury line of vehicles.
These creature comforts and amenities can be found all throughout the LaGreat. Up front, the driver has access to automatic sliding rear door controls on both the dash, and even the key fob. Parking is simplified thanks to a factory equipped rearview camera. Power pop-out rear windows can be controlled from the front or rear of the vehicle, giving fresh airflow to rear passengers. Completely removeable middle row seats with a quick detach handle, and fold away rearmost seats. And in the first of its class to do so, Honda installed a high-tech Navigation system, while not functional stateside due to GPS incompatibility, the screen on this example boots to life and displays in full clarity.
Powering this familiar minivan, 210 HP is sent to its FWD 4 Speed Automatic coming from Hondas 3.5 liter J35A1 V6. While not the most powerful V6 on the market, Hondas reliability in combination with its simple layout means that any future service work is a breeze, and with proper maintenance, its certain the J35 can outlast many of the competitors. As its direct counterpart here in the United States is the Odyssey, service is no hassle with parts availability at nearly any parts stores, and dealers abundantly willing to work on it.
Outside, the design of the LaGreat is simple while staying sophisticated. With plentiful interior room, the LaGreat still maintains A relatively small stature on the road, keeping the driving experience easy and parking convenient. The Canyon Stone Silver Metallic paint code shows no damage at all, indicating the meticulous practices its previous owner performed to keep this example showing so well after 25 years.
A pleasant driving experience, simple maintenance and plentiful room create an incredibly inviting experience for those looking to get into a unique minivan. Add in the convenience of dual sliding doors, three rows of seating and fully removable middle row seats for increased cargo room and you have one of the most versatile Honda minivans ever produced.
