1998 Pontiac Bonneville SLE If 60 is the new 50, then granny car is the new sports car, as the Pontiac Bonneville combines the energy of a supercharged engine with the comfort of a roomy full-size car, and the luxury features of a high-end sedan. More sports sedan than fuddy-duddy old-timer, the 1998 Pontiac Bonneville is here for the taking. For consignment a 1998 Bonneville from Pontiac, in SLE trim. This means a 3.8 liter V6, EFI 4-Speed automatic and all the creature comforts one could want in a 1998 4-door sedan including leather seats, performance suspension, traction control, and steering wheel audio controls. Exterior All bathed in black and ready to be the belle of the ball, we can still see a hint of the Pontiac beak in front on the black thing small front grille. Now integrated headlights with side turn signals wrapping around the front quarters give this car a much more aero look than its dual stacked headlight predecessors. Some black vinyl accenting is adding a 3D look to the slab sides and black trimmings for the glass and handles. Nicely rounded panels and well minded gaps are noted throughout. Paint is fair with some dulling, staining, and oxidation throughout. Interior Inside futuristic Michelin Man-esque leather buckets with vertical stitched inserts and integrated headrests flank a center rounded design gray console. A gray leather bench is in back and of the same pattern. Undulating lines abound for the dash design which seamlessly integrates to the center console. Even door panels are utilizing this round flowing style...gone is the 80s square and rectangle design, (thank goodness!). All clean and nicely preserved here. Drivetrain Some patina one the 3.8-liter V6 engine. It is fed by EFI and has a 4T60E 4-speed automatic transmission on back with a 2.84 final drive, Undercarriage Heavy surface rust is on the exhaust system, and it does leak, so it will need to be attended to on a priority basis. Otherwise, spotty surface rust is noted and plenty of oxidized and slightly corroded parts for the floor pans and other undercarriage structural parts. The bottom ends of the shock towers are a bit rusted and should also be checked for stability. Independent suspension is all around, and power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums on the rear. Drive-Ability A quick starter and the 6 cylinders all came immediately to life. On the test track it performed as expected. There was an airbag light on, the A/C system has a leak and will not cool, and as noted earlier that exhaust leak. A 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SLE in fair condition with the paint, and mechanically sound with a nice interior and a few items needing attention. One owner for its entire life which includes just a tick under 66K miles. Come and get it!
