Classic Car Overview

1998 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4x4 Short Bed Pickup

HAS TITLE

NO RESERVE

For auction, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab short bed 4x4 with a title verified 189,632 actual miles. Overall, the body is in fair shape but the rocker panels are rusted and the engine has a bad rod knock and small hole in the oil pan.

Exterior
The two stage Indigo Blue paint has seen better days and could probably be brought back to life with some detailing as it covers this short bed truck with an extended cab. The horizontal surface, namely the hood and roof are oxidized and missing a good bit of clear coat but the bed's liner appears to be in good shape, albeit a bit dirty. Black plastic trim around the truck including the mirrors, door handles and side molding could also benefit from some detailing, if that's the direction you want to go. If so, you'll need some new 4x4 bed decals as these are faded and peeling. There's a long scratch that starts on the front right fender, rides along the passenger door, bisects the door handle, continues on to the rear door and onto the bed. The chrome plastic grille is cracked and there are long scratches on the driver's side too. We note some surface rust where paint should be at the top of a door and there are numerous scratches, scuffs and chips throughout. There's rust on the tailgate and rear bumper and as noted, severe and deep into the rocker panels. 16-inch wheels carry LT285/75R16 tires.

Interior
This working truck shows it on the outside and has evidence on the inside too with door panels that are dirty but fully intact other than a missing courtesy light lens. The bucket seats are done in gray cloth and show some usage but no tears and the rear crew, (or kid), bench remains in good shape, but also dirty. The four spoke steering wheel leads to a no nonsense instrument cluster, basic info only, and a Sony AM/FM/CD player and A/C panel in the center stack. The top of the dash is cracked badly and separated from the fascia which is also cracked. Both the carpet and headliner are dirty.

Drivetrain
We'll call the bay driver quality and it houses a 5.7 liter V8 tied to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 14 bolt rear axle and CV axle up front.

Undercarriage
There is advanced surface rust throughout with pitted framing under the bed. There is oil about thanks to the hole in the pan. Other than some surface rust, the single exhaust looks good and runs through a stainless steel muffler before exiting through dual tailpipes. Power brakes are on board as standard front disc and rear drum and suspension consists of torsion bars ahead and leaf springs behind.

Drive-Ability
Due to the rod knock and oil leak, we did not drive this truck. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

The optimist in us sees a restorable truck here, but it's going to take some work, and some metal, to be sure. As is, this truck is offered at no reserve.
