The first 30 years saw few changes, and all units built in Japan during that time came with a V8 engine. The Second Generation received a major upgrade with the introduction of a V12 engine in 1997, which remained the only available option until the Third Generation debuted in 2018. While a manual transmission option was originally available with the First Generation, that was discontinued and the Century has been built and sold exclusively with an automatic transmission since 1975.
