Classic Car Overview
1996 Land Rover Defender 110 Helderberg
The Land Rover Defender is, with good reason, one of the most beloved off-roaders of all time. With a decades-long production run, the Defender is a truck built to be your one-car solution - just as happy working on the farm as it is taking you into town for a night out. With this enthusiasm comes people who look to improve on the product, and the Defender is without a doubt, one of the most upgraded vehicles in the world. As most were fairly sparsely equipped, there is plenty of room to improve them, and one of the best shops for doing that is Helderberg. Based in Sharon Springs, New York, Helderberg started as one mans vision to build the perfect Defender for his lifestyle, and evolved into one of the largest Defender upfitting outfits in the world.
This 1996 Land Rover Defender 110 upgraded by Helderberg is finished in Black Metallic over a Java and Black two-tone leather interior. The build on this truck was completed in May 2024 at a cost of over $300,000 and it has been driven just 479 miles since its completion. One of the most menacing looking Defenders we have seen, this trucks black exterior is complimented by a lifted suspension with ARB-Fox shocks and a fully powder coated frame. A set of 16-inch 5-spoke wheels in black are wrapped in 35-inch Cooper STT Pro M/T tires that poke out of the over-flared fenders. Around the truck is a black-finished external roll cage, which is paired with a tubular front bumper and under-car front skid plate. LED lighting has been installed, along with tubular side steps and Masai windows. Everything on the exterior is finished in monotone black including the billet exterior hinges and handles, completing the aggressive look.
On the inside, two-tone Ruskin Design leather Java brown and black covers the interior. Two upgraded front bucket seats feature diamond quilting, adjustable lumbar and reclining capabilities, and the two middle captains chairs and inward-facing rear jump seats are upholstered to match. In the rear, beautifully finished wood is used on the floor, giving the interior an almost nautical feel. An Alcantara headliner in tan has also been fitted to complete the upscale-feel. Slide into the drivers seat and you are met with a polished wood and aluminum 3-spoke steering wheel, and to the right is a high-end Alpine stereo with Apple CarPlay, a backup camera and Bluetooth capabilities.
Under the hood sits one of Land Rovers most beloved engines - the 300Tdi. This 2.5-liter turbo-diesel inline 4 is known for its low-down torque and was really the first diesel offered in a Defender that allowed them to cruise comfortably at highway speeds. This is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels. A locking center differential was one of the crucial features to the Defenders off-road success, and this truck also benefits from four-wheel disc brakes and power steering, making it far more pleasant to drive in town. While under the care of Helderberg, the truck received a new stainless exhaust and upgraded rear diff cover.
Any classic Defender in the United States garners attention - but as more of them are imported each year, it can feel hard to stand out from the crowd. This example was extensively upgraded by Heldeberg with an exceptional level of quality and looks like no other Defender on the road. Skip the years long wait to get one built for you, this example is essentially brand new and ready to be enjoyed today!
