Classic Car Overview

This 1996 AM General M998 HMMWV was originally designed for use by the US military and was acquired by the current owner in 2018. Power is provided by a 6.5-liter diesel V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Finished in Woodland camouflage pattern with gray Bestop TrailMax seats, this low mileage truck is equipped with matching canvas soft top and doors, inboard disc brakes, and portal axles. Power is provided by a 6.5-liter diesel V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. This Humvee is offered by one owner who has maintained the vehicle since purchase, and it has clean Arizona title and is currently tagged to legally drive on the road.

The vehicle has double wishbone suspension with portal gear hubs on all 4 wheels and inboard disc brakes. The brake discs are not mounted at the wheels, as on conventional cars, but are inboard of the half-shafts, attached outboard of the differentials. The front and rear differentials are Torsen type, and the center differential is of the lockable type. Torque-biasing differentials allows forward movement as long as at least one wheel has traction. It runs on specialized, black-finished steel wheels with Goodyear Wrangler M/T MT 37x12.50x16.5LT Tires.

The M998 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) went into production for military use in 1984 with an aluminum body over a steel frame. This example is finished in woodland camouflage and has a canvas soft top and doors. Other exterior features include bullet-proof windshield added, LED headlights and taillights, Airlift bumper and swing away tire carrier, lifting rings, a pintle hitch, front and rear tow shackles, key starter, clamshell hood, and a cargo bed. Other features include heavy duty rubber matting for sound management, Wetsounds Bluetooth stereo speakers with a 10 woofer and a 30 roll bar speaker, battery kill switch, and two large whip antennas across the top.
The AM General HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), commonly referred to as a HUMVEE, was introduced to the Military in the 1980's and was adopted by all branches. It was developed to fill in the role that military Jeeps had previously played in the United States military. While the M998 HUMVEE is the most common HMMWV model, there are several versions and variations depending what job the vehicle will serve. #HUMVEE #MILITARY #M998
