Here is a real 1996 Mustang SVT Cobra that really does the name proud. The SVT Cobra represented the top-of-the-line Mustang for many years, but this one takes it a step further with proven upgrades including a Kenne Bell supercharger, subframe connectors, camber/caster plates, and more. The result is a Mustang that offers superb performance but is still reliable and easy to live with.
Showing 66.5k miles, this Mustang has a very sporty look with its Crystal White paint with black racing stripes. Factory accents include Cobra and SVT emblems. In front you get the round Cobra fog lights and dual vented hood, while out back you will find the special Cobra spoiler and embossed rear bumper cover. This car has also been fitted with chrome SVE wheels wearing Nitto NT555 G2 tires (275/40ZR17 front, 315/35ZR17 rear) showing 2020 date codes.
1996 was the first Mustang with Ford’s 4.6L V8. The SVT Cobra had the factory’s highest power rating at 305hp, but this one bumps that up further with a Kenne Bell TS 1000-5 supercharger, intake, and booster fuel pump. This proven combination is much like a Terminator setup and gives a noticeable power increase over stock while maintaining good reliability.
The engine feeds the factory 5-speed manual transmission and 8.8” rear end. The special Cobra disc brakes feature 13” front rotors and 11” rears. Drilled and slotted rotors are present. This car also has adjustable camber/caster plates, welded subframe connectors, and a performance exhaust with x-pipe.
The black leather interior is all stock except for an aftermarket Boss head unit with Bluetooth capability. The leather bucket seats show some cracking from age, but there are no perforations or tears. The Cobra white faced gauges really look nice against the dash. Everything works properly including the power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and parking brake. The engine fires right up as it should and the check engine light goes out properly.
The SVT Cobra was the best you could buy in 1996, and this example is better still. It is a great running car that you could drive every day and have a lot of fun in the process. It also comes with its SVT Cobra Registry certificate. While most used cars in this price range are quite forgettable, this one offers plenty of excitement along with a bit of collectability.
