Classic Car Overview

1996 Alfa Romeo 155 Busso 2.5L V6 | DTM Tribute Livery | Japan-Market | 86,500 Miles | OZ Wheels

A rare Japan-market 155 with the Busso V6, presented in DTM tribute livery a visually striking, mechanically sound example of one of Alfa Romeos most celebrated road cars.

The Alfa Romeo 155 was produced from 1992 to 1997 and occupies a unique place in Alfas history. Its racing counterpart the 155 V6 Ti dominated the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) in the mid-1990s, winning the championship in 1993 with Alessandro Nannini and again in 1994 and 1996, becoming one of the most successful touring car racers of its era. This road car pays tribute to that legacy through its DTM-inspired livery, making it an eye-catching and historically resonant example of the model.

This particular 155 was purchased new in Japan in 1996 and spent its entire life there before coming to the US. It was featured as a display car for UP Garage, a well-known Japanese automotive parts retailer. It has covered an average of just 4,325 miles per year since new 86,500 miles total, converted from kilometers. Clean Washington State title is in process.

The heart of this car is the legendary Busso V6 a 2.5-liter unit designed by Giuseppe Busso and widely regarded as one of the finest naturally aspirated engines Alfa Romeo ever produced. Known for its silky power delivery, distinctive exhaust note, and mechanical refinement, the Busso V6 is the engine that Alfa enthusiasts specifically seek out in the 155. This example is unmodified aside from an aftermarket intake filter and new hoses and couplers the engine is otherwise factory specification.

The drivetrain is front-wheel drive with the factory gearbox intact. The engine starts immediately and pulls strongly through the rev range with no smoke on startup or while running. The gearbox shifts perfectly with a crisp, engaging feel. Steering response is immediate. The previous owner replaced the clutch slave cylinder during his two years of ownership. The level of mechanical maintenance and care evident in this car is consistent with its Japanese ownership history.

The build is focused on aesthetics, stance, and wheels rather than mechanical modification. The suspension has been lowered, delivering a ride that is surprisingly supple and compliant on the road without feeling loose or vague. Period-correct factory OZ wheels in 17×7 with a 35mm offset are fitted.

The DTM tribute livery is the centerpiece of the cars presentation and gives it an aggressive, purposeful appearance consistent with the racing heritage it references. Body panels are straight with excellent gaps and zero evidence of past accident damage. The car is completely rust-free.

The one area of honest disclosure is the clear coat: it is failing and peeling in multiple areas, concentrated primarily on the top-facing body surfaces hood, roof, and trunk. The underlying paint is in good shape with zero corrosion beneath. Some of the livery stickers are also beginning to lift at the edges. This is a cosmetic issue, not a structural one, please see images.

Everything functions fully. Air conditioning blows cold. All lights and gauges are operational. No warning lights present.

A rare opportunity to acquire a Japan-market Alfa Romeo 155 with the Busso V6 low average mileage, mechanically strong, rust-free, and visually distinctive. The clear coat condition is disclosed transparently and priced accordingly. The fundamentals of the car are excellent.
