Classic Car Overview

This MR2 is a time machine that takes you back to an era when fun wasnt an option, it was the whole point. With its mid mounted, turbocharged engine and rear wheel drive, the SW20 was designed to be driven. Its main competition was high end supercars, and while it cant necessarily compete in a straight line speed race, the purchase price alone is reason enough to give the MR2 its place in the market.

From its predecessor, affectionately known as the Wedge, the SW20 gained a more rounded, sleek, and sporty look. Finished in one of the most iconic and exclusive colors, the Tropical Blue Metallic has no noticeable defects. The metallic flake gives this MR2 a real edge in the sun, raising its cool factor even higher. As a completely stock example, this SW20 makes for the perfect addition for a collector, or would make a perfect base for your next daily able project car.

The GT-S trim offered basic amenities such as climate control, power windows, power mirrors, and cloth interior. The cloth seats remain in great condition with no tearing or burn holes. It is clear that the previous owner had great passion for keeping this vehicle in near immaculate condition. The only notable interior modification is the addition of a Pioneer head unit, as well as the replacement of the shift knob and e-brake boot with OEM style replacements. The heat blows hot and switches to the cold A/C with nearly no hesitation, and all interior electrics are functioning as if fresh off the assembly line.

Mechanically, changes in the MR2 came through its multiple revisions. At the time, the Revision 3 was most desirable for 2 main reasons; the upgrade performed to the transmission synchros, and the upgrade in overall hp to 242 at the crank. This upgrade in power made the MR2 much more enjoyable for spirited driving, and the responsiveness was improved infinitely. Mated to the engine was the mandatory 5 speed transmission fitted in all of the GT-S trimmed SW20s. Thanks to the upgraded synchros mentioned above, the transmission goes through all gears happily and silently and the factory short throw of the MR2 makes it quite an enjoyable experience to drive.

Overall, the legacy of the MR2 stands true today as one of the most iconic mid engine cars ever produced. From its brightly colored paint to its time on the track, its an all around enjoyable experience. Whether your goal is to track it, daily it, or Sunday drive it to church, Toyota proved that happiness can be bought all in a compact sports car.
