Classic Car Overview
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys Magnus Walker: The Outlaw Collection event, 18 - 25 March 2026.
Offered Without Reserve $25,000 - $30,000 USD
My 1995 Aventurine Green 968 with the tan interior is perhaps the nicest transaxle car that I own. I bought this car in 2019 from the former sales manager of Brumos Motors my all-time favorite Porsche dealership and was told that Hurley Haywood himself has actually driven it. Just one more cool piece of Porsche history.
This is the last production year of the 968 and by far the best of all the four-cylinder water-cooled front-engine transaxle cars. Just the quality of the fit and finish and the 3-liter four-banger has just enough torque and power to make it really the most fun of the lot. With perfect weight distribution and the six-speed transmission, this truly is the one to have.
Magnus Walker
The Porsche 968 stands out as an undeniably distinctive and superbly engineered, yet often overlooked, chapter in the firms history, representing one of the final examples of Porsches front-engine, rear-transaxle design before the companys full return to rear-engine architecture for its sportscars.
Powered by an evolution of the 944 S2s 3.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, the 968s brilliance lies in its technical sophistication: It features a lightweight aluminum block, VarioCam variable valve timing, newly optimized induction and exhaust systems, a dual-mass flywheel, and updated engine management electronics tuned for smooth, predictable power delivery. Paired with a rear-mounted six-speed manual transaxle for ideal weight distribution, the engine delivers a driving experience that is mechanically thrilling and supremely balanced, rewarding both spirited cornering and relaxed cruising.
Magnus Walkers 968 is a final-year example finished in its stunning factory livery of Aventurine Green Metallic over Cashmere and Black partial leather trim. It was equipped from the factory with a limited-slip differential, a color-matched rear spoiler, Porsche crest wheel center caps, and a light rosewood shift lever knob. Acquired by Walker in 2019, at cataloguing time, its odometer displayed 90,642 miles.
In very original condition throughout, it still has a Brumos Motor Cars, Inc. sticker in the rear window, noting that the Porsche was Test Driven and Approved by Hurley Haywood, and it is fitted with a period-perfect Brumos license plate frame.
The 968 has earned a devoted following among enthusiasts for its rarity and sublime driving dynamics. It is a car of quiet sophistication: a front-engine Porsche that captures the brands performance DNA in a package very unlike that of its rear-engine stablemates. With excellent colors and a great specification from the 968s final production year, this is a perfect opportunity to finally experience the greatness of the transaxle Porsches for yourself.
