VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

In 1971, work began on what was initially intended to be the next development for the 911 following the upcoming launch of the 'G-Series' models. The new car was to provide greater luxury and superior performance to all that came before it, with increased interior capacity and a five-liter V8. A year later, it was decided the project would become its own model, the 928, and would be front-engined - a major departure for the company at the time. After six years of development, the 928 was revealed to the public with a futuristic design and great acclaim. The company's substantional engineering talents were on full display, and there were plenty of whispers the 911 would be phased out in favor of the new car.

By the 1990s, following numerous development upgrades, improvements, and a major facelift, the 928 was ready for its ultimate iteration: the GTS. Combining the sporting focus of the preceeding GT with the luxurious interior of the S4, the 928 GTS was the perfect swansong for the model. Most notable was its 5.4L V8, now producing 345hp (the GT offered 326hp, the S4 316hp). Flared rear wheel arches, body-color spoilers, a wrap-around rear light bar, and 17-inch "Cup" wheels were among the major exterior changes. With an MSRP that could easily exceed $100,000 with options, it is no wonder 928 GTS production remained low, with only 2,904 produced worldwide between 1992 and 1995. Today, the GTS is one of the most desirable iterations of the 928, with pristince examples being extremely sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The exquisite 1995 Porsche 928 GTS Sunroof Coupe featured here is finished in stunning gloss Black over an impeccably kept Cashmere (Beige) leather interior. This investment-grade 928 GTS is among one of the finest examples we've seen come to market in years! In regards to investment, this example checks all the boxes: low miles, spectacular condition, and extremely low production with only 26 built in 1995, making this the perfect example to add to any premier collection. I personally believe the investment potential of this low production, highly desirable final-year 928 GTS will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires only the very best at an investment price!
