Classic Car Overview
Chamonix, a small town at the base of Mont Blanc in the French Alps is well known for its ski culture, and outdoor focused activities. Mitsubishi took notes, and created the Delica Chamonix, an extreme cold weather vehicle with features perfect for enthusiasts that want to brave the arctic. Low mileage compliments the desirable trim, turning this unique van into a practical choice for not only enthusiasts, but collectors or even daily drivers.
The Mitsubishi Delica has always been a solid choice worldwide as a people mover, or what the name was derived from; the Delivery Car. Powering this full sized van is the 4M40, a 2.8L intercooled turbo diesel four cylinder designed for commercial and remote use, known for its durability and torque focused delivery. Producing approximately 140 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, power is primarily sent to the rear wheels for efficient on road driving. When conditions require more traction, Mitsubishis Super Select 4WD system shared with the Pajero of the same era allows seamless engagement of full time four wheel drive, including high range and low range gearing with a locking center differential. This gives the Delica the flexibility to operate confidently on pavement, in poor weather, or in low speed, demanding terrain without compromising drivability. The result is a mechanically robust platform that favors reliability and real world usability over complexity.
The cabin features the factory Chamonix interior, designed to be both practical and comfortable for extended travel. Seating is provided for eight across three rows, with the signature middle-row captains chairs able to swivel and rotate 180 degrees to face the rear passengers, creating a lounge style layout when parked. The third row jump seats fold and stow neatly to the sides, allowing the interior to be quickly reconfigured for cargo or passengers. Additional details include power adjusting mirrors, privacy curtains throughout the cabin, pop-out rear windows for ventilation, and a factory idle-up controller for stable cold weather operation. The overall layout emphasizes versatility, visibility, and ease of use in a true overland-capable people mover.
The Moonlight Blue Pearl/Silver Metallic was one of two colors seen on the early Chamonix variants, with many preferring it over its Summit White counterpart. A large factory fitted front push bar sits on the front bumper with yellow fog lights adding visibility in tough conditions. Side steps allow ease of entry to any of the doors, and monsoon guards over the front windows protect rain from entering when the windows are open. Added by its previous owner, it also has a Terzo roof ladder mounted to the rear hatch. This van is an adventure ready example equipped for any climate or terrain.
With just 48,277 original miles, this Delica is a low mileage example that is still early in its service life. Finished in Chamonix trim, the highest specification offered for the Delica at the time, it combines long term mechanical durability with a well equipped and thoughtfully designed interior. It represents an opportunity to own a top tier Delica with many years of usable life ahead, whether as a daily driver, family hauler, or a well proven platform for an adventure van.
