VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys The Monaco Auction event, 25 April 2026.
Offered Without Reserve 100,000 - 150,000 EUR

  • One of just 356 examples built of the Europe-only M3 GT homologation special
  • Finished in the models exclusive shade of British Racing Green over a Mexico Green Nappa leather and Anthracite Alcantara interior
  • Powered by the uprated S50B30 3.0-litre straight-six engine; revised camshafts and a higher compression ratio produce 295 horsepower
  • Delivered to Germany in May 1995 ahead of ownership in the Nordics and France
  • Offered with a spare set of M3 GT wheels, owners manual, service book, and tools

A deep front splitter, raised rear wing, British Racing Green paint, and a Mexico Green Nappa leather interior were the hallmarks of the E36-generaton M3 GT. Also featuring aluminium doors as part of a 30-kilogram weight saving and an enhanced 3.0-litre straight-six engine delivering 295 horsepower, just 356 examples were built by BMW. All were sold exclusively in Europe to homologate the factorys FIA and IMSA GT Series entrant.

The car offered here holds a 29 April 1995 production date ahead of being delivered to its first owner in Germany four weeks later via official BMW dealership Autohaus Moderegger of Berchtesgaden. It stands among the most generously specified of all M3 GTs made. From an extensive list of options, standouts include the selection of heated front seats, a headlight wash system, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, an electric sunroof, and perhaps most notable for a track-biased special edition built three decades ago rear parking sensors.

After a two-year stint with its first keeper, this car left its home country in May 1997. It was exported to Sweden. As part of the accompanying documentation, a vehicle history report (available to view on file) records changes of ownership in November 2002, June 2006, April 2007, and June 2009 before the M3 GT was taken to Finland in May 2011.

Under the care of the then-owner, the BMW was minimally driven through to July 2022. At this time, marque specialist Mint Classics of Hohenbrunn, Germany sourced the M3 GT for a French collector, who chose not to drive nor register the car for use on the road. The M3 GT was presented to the factory-paired BMW Classic workshop in Munich, where it was lightly overhauled and finished in the excellent condition it is presented in today. Later acquired by the consigning owner in early 2023, this M3 GT benefits from the fitment of a new clutch slave cylinder and a refresh of the driveshaft and rear axle performed by JLC Atelier of Cavaillon in February 2026.

Displaying 91,652 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, this rarified homologation special is offered with a spare set of M3 GT wheels, maintenance invoices, original order forms, a complete tool kit, plus BMW folio containing the service book and M3 GT-specific owners manual.
