1994 Land Rover Defender

FULLY RESTORED JUST 111 MILES DRIVEN SINCE RESTORATION TRULY EXCEPTIONAL

This 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS Soft-Top is number 316 of 1,943 North American-Specification examples imported into the USA for the first of three model years. This particular Portofino Red example was acquired by the current owner in 2022.

This stunning example was completely refurbished, (cosmetically and mechanically) by the current owner, with work that has included the following items:

Stripped down to bare metal and repainted in the original Portofino Red, sand blasting and powder-coating the rear bumper and taillight guards, the roll cage, rear step bumper and rear light guards, replacement of the headlight surrounds, wheel arch flares, badges, exterior lights, new billet aluminum door hinges, body seals, new door latches and locks, the installation of replacement front seats, the replacement of braking and suspension components, a new OEM windshield, front grille, front bumper, door panels, rearview mirror, both door tops restored, new front and rear lights and reflectors, new interior light, upgraded dash bulbs, new rear view mirror, new door mirrors, new Tuffy steel locking center storage box, new dash gauges, new warning light cluster, new instrument binnacle, upgraded metal mounting plate, new Wright Off Road rubber insulation matting kit, new Land Rover rubber cargo matting, new front door panels, both front seat belts refurbished in the UK, custom made steering wheel, five new BF Goodrich All-Terrain K02 tires, a new Black Bikini Top, installation of a receiver hitch, new engine and transmission mounts.

Additional work post-restoration included a Major Service with new engine oil, differential oil and gearbox oil together with all new filters.

Power comes from a 3.9-liter, gasoline V8 engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 2-speed transfer case. The 3.9-liter V8 was rated at 182hp and 232 lb/ft of torque when new. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox featuring hi/lo operation and a locking center differential.

Pleaser note that this example is CA Smog compliant and for California residents, the registration is valid through to May 2025.

Stopping power is provided by power-assisted discs at all four corners. The power steering box was replaced in January 2015 and work during the refurbishment is said to have included installing an Old Man Emu steering damper as well as replacing the tires, springs, shocks, steering drop arm, and tie rod ends.

The bespoke, three-spoke steering wheel is custom manufactured by British Car Services, Inc of Inglewood, California and frames a replacement instrument cluster, of which the 6-digit odometer shows 111 miles, (correct as of May 31st, 2024). The replacement of the entire instrument cluster was carried out during the full restoration in 2022/2023. The total vehicle mileage is unknown.
