1994 Hummer Custom
Convertible Car for sale in Kearny, Arizona 85137
Following in the tradition of previous Ford factory built Mustang race cars like the 1968 Cobra Jet, the Boss 429 and the FR500S Mustang Challenge car, Ford Racing and AAI started work on a production run of 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs in January 2010. Ford Racing built 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs at Ford vendor facilities.
One thing that the crew at Volo Auto Museum understands is that context is everything. They have gone the extra mile to display each movie car with memorabilia and signage that brings the scene to life. The museum features actual movie props such as Tom Cruise's racing seat from Days Of Thunder.
Classic Car Overview
This TRUE-ALL-TERRAIN vehicle started life as a 1994 M998-A1 military HMMWV. The wheelbase has been shrunk to 106 inches and rear steering, with a proprietary hydraulic system, was added resulting in an amazingly tight 13.5-foot turn radius. The differentials have been beefed up with the installation of full carriage Eaton Detroit Lockers front and rear and the flimsy NP242 transfer case was replaced with a “bullet proof” dual shift, NP205. All the brakes, half shafts and geared hubs were brought up to as-new standards. The ride was tamed by coils from Chad Hall Racing Components, the steel fenders turn with the steering, front and rear, and are equipped with waterproof Cree LED trail lights. All the gear boxes, (geared hubs, differentials, transfer case and transmission) are protected during water fording to 72-inches with a pressure REGULATED air system adjustable to the appropriate atmospheric pressure changes. The drive train is powered by a 6.5-liter, special purpose military V-8 diesel engine coupled to a 3L80-HD transmission.
Daylight under this machine is provided by 10-ply rated 41.5-X-13-X-18 Pit Bull Rocker radial tires raising it to 23-inches of ground clearance down the middle. A spare tire, loaded by a 24-volt, 2000-pound electric, winch is on board. The cargo rack is hinged for flat tire changes and is easily removed completely with only four bolts. The grill is made for quick changes between the “Flaming Skull” and an aggressive louvered grill for maximum air flow. Additionally, with the convertible top retracted, the tinted windshield can be lowered, not only for fun and comfort but for travelling under larger branches, rock out-crops, train trestles, highway culverts and low garages.
The 24-volt electric system is powered by a 200-amp dual voltage alternator and the 12-volt peripheral components are supplied through 1400-amp push-buck inverters. All the wiring, lights and gauges are not only waterproofed but employ EMP protection ratings. The headlights are 225-watt, 9-inch Cree LED lights producing 22.5 thousand lumens. For sound, this unit has a V340-BT JVC touch screen entertainment console pushing quad speakers, two of which are 10-inch kickers boxed in the seat bases and communications, needed outside cell service areas, are provided by a YAESU FT-7900R/E dual band transceiver, (ham radio) transmitting through Comet antennas mounted with 60-pound magnetic bases.
The entire body was custom designed not only to project a strong, aggressive nature but to withstand torturous, real world conditions. It is built with a skin of toughest welded 10-gauge cold-rolled steel over 2” X 2” X 3/16” drawn, boxed steel tubing. The front and rear bumper plates are ½-inch steel to withstand extreme impact and the vital organs are protected underneath with 3/16-inch perforated aggregate steel. The doors have smooth exteriors, massive hinges and “vault lock” latches. The interior is sound dampened and kept cool with flame retardant, super tough, foam panels and the only real noise comes from the Black Widow Neighbor Hater mufflers on the dual exhaust stacks.
Additional supportive amenities include a rear view camera which displays on the big screen of the JVC, a hands free phone system operating likewise through the stereo and an automatic, variable speed, 16 inch Flex-A-Lite fan affording enhanced engine cooling.
This beast has a clean Arizona title and is registered for highway travel. It has never been raced or otherwise abused/mis-used. It has good oil pressure, no leaks of any kind, anywhere. Everything is dependably operable and it is easily the most eye catching, jaw dropping participant in any event.
