Inspired by the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, Porsche announced the 964-generation 911 Carrera RS in late 1991 for the 1992 model year. As with previous lightweight, enthusiast-oriented 911s, American enthusiasts were disappointed to learn the RS would not make its way to our shores due to concerns over our safety and emissions regulations. At the behest of Porsche Cars North America President/CEO, Fred Schwab, who'd heard from plenty of Porsche Club members regarding thier irritation, Porsche developed the 911 RS America. Produced in a run of only 701 examples exclusively for the US market for the 1993 and 1994 model years, the RS America was a lower-cost, lighter weight variant of the standard Carrera 2. On its introduction, Schwab declared of the RSA: If you like to autocross, this is your car. If you are a time-trialer, you need this car. If driving is for fun, this is your car the car that the Porsche Club of America built.
Featuring the M030 sport suspension as standard along with a special "whale tail" spoiler and larger wheels/wider tires, RS Americas were provided without air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, a sunroof, radio, or, in 1993, rear seats, reducing weight by some 77 pounds over the standard car. Many RS America's were ordered with one or more elements of deleted equipment, the sunroof and air conditioning being the most popular. While not producing any additional power over the 911 Carrera 2, the RS America still manages to create a distinctive driving feel with its manual steering and enthusiast-oriented build. Today, these cars are gaining traction as some of the most collectible non-Turbo 964s, a trend we believe will only continue.
The magnificent 1993 Porsche 911 RS America Coupe featured here is finished in classic and desirable Guards Red over a Black interior. This incredible example has been meticulously maintained from new and is among one of the nicest examples we've seen in years. Ordered new in the enthusiast-oriented specification without a sunroof but with the comfort of air conditioning, this is the perfect RS America to drive and enjoy. We are proud to offer this investment-grade Porsche 911 to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires only the very best at an investment price!
