Classic Car Overview

1993 Mercedes Benz 300SD Sedan

For consignment, a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300SD sedan with a title verified 74,940 miles. This is a garage kept example with obvious signs of pampering and represents the epitome of top tier luxury for 1993.

Exterior
Its both boxy and rounded and has an instant presence that realtors call curb appeal. This is a handsome car with tight gaps and smooth panels, looking especially stately with Black paint over a gray lower. The sport mirrors share the black with robust bezels, the sturdy door handles are backed by polished chrome, and the sides are adorned with a double red pinstripe. Tail lights contour to the angled edge of the decklid and a reflective band takes in the reverse lights, all at the end of a large, sloping rear window. The 16-inch Mercedes wheels are in nice condition and wrapped in Michelin 235/60R16s while up top, a sunroof slides seamlessly into the roofline when open. Imperfections include various scratches and scuffs throughout, a ding, surface scratches, minor chips, and chin scrapes.

Interior
The door panels begin our clinic in design and construction with carefully rippled leather inserts, plush carpet lowers, and stunning zebra wood trim and all four doors present clean and tight. Well padded black leather bucket seats occupy the front, more luxury than sport but not without side bolstering to keep you cupped in position. The drivers side shows some light wear on the ingress point, but the passenger seat and rear seats are in near perfect condition. The black grain of the zebra wood in front are the perfect complement to the black plastics of the steering wheel and dash where youll find a clear and succinct instrument cluster with bold numbering and digital readouts. The center stack holds the A/C panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio and the wood then waterfalls seamlessly onto the console that houses the shifter, seat heaters, and window controls. Plush charcoal carpet floods the floor, foot wells and even the underside of the dash while the gray headliner also remains fully intact. As you would expect, the entire trunk is finished in gray carpets and cloth panels and is not only sizable, but clean and lighted.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a driver quality 3.4 liter SOHC turbo diesel, fuel injected and rated at 148 horsepower. Its mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.07 gears.

Undercarriage
Clean driver quality here with some road dust and spider webs, but nothing negative of note. The single exhaust runs through an original muffler on its way to the back and power disc brakes are found front and rear. Both ends have independent suspension with Macpherson struts supplied in front and coil springs in back.

Drive-Ability
We start the engine with the door open, but once closed, Mercedes provides a veritable cocoon that you never want to leave. The car makes its way onto the test loop and offers up a smooth ride, straight tracking, and very good braking. It feels grounded and tight, the kind of car youll walk out of refreshed from a long road trip. We note the A/C and radio are not working but all other functions available operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This generation Benz was among the last to be 100% built and engineered in Germany, so it carries with it the legacy of some of the most lauded car manufacturing in the history of the automobile. Its classic enough to put it in German shows and young enough to drive daily, a virtual smorgasbord of possibilities!
