Classic Car Overview

1993 Mazda Miata MX-5 For consignment, a final year generation 1 1993 Mazda Miata MX-5 with a title verified 224,452 actual miles. Not only is it now a classic, but its a well maintained and drivable one. If youve ever dreamed of owning a first generation Miata, heres one thats been well loved and has life left in the tank. Exterior Classic Red is aptly named since it was the most common and recognizable color often used in press coverage. Youll be able to tell yours from the crowd as it has Miata in script on the side, an uncommon accessory hardtop, and a small spoiler on back. This is the iconic first gen, with pop up headlights, oval lower intake, leading marker lights and yes, that cute tail with the flush, wrap around tail lights. The 14-inch wheels were standard too, although changed since Miatas first years and some say, preferred. A camel canvas soft top is also on board, a bit discolored, and its plastic window is detached. The door handles are inspired by British sports cars and the oval shape and inset actuator are fitting for a car full of ovals and rounded curves. A Hurst Equipped emblem is on the back, more on that in the interior section. Imperfections include some bubbling, paint chips, and loose threads on stitched edges of the soft top. Our consignor states convertible seals and trunk seals have been replaced Interior And like those British sports cars, the door panels are simple and pragmatic, dressed in Saddle in this case as part of a total interior restoration by our consignor sometime in the past, and looking clean as a result. The seats have been reupholstered in Saddle and the tall backed seats rest on a racy chrome roll bar. Miatas offer a simple yet driver focused cockpit that supplies the pilot with only essential information via a basic gauge cluster behind a black steering wheel which in this case shows some patina. The center stack is surrounded in Saddle and houses climate controls and a JVC AM/FM/CD radio. In the center console, a Hurst, white knobbed shifter wears a black leather boot with red stitching and a two cupholder follows. Low pile red carpet covers the floor and is newer. The trunk is relatively clean and is occupied by a 10 Kicker subwoofer that takes up some space. Drivetrain Under the hood, we find the clean 1.6 liter DOHC inline 4 cylinder engine producing 116 horsepower rowed by a 5-speed manual transmission and sending the power to the rear wheels and 4.30 gears, because thats what true sportscars do! The Miata however, has the advantage of power disc brakes at all four corners, something vintage Brits didnt have. Our consignor states parts added at some point include an aluminum radiator, thermostat, coolant hoses, throttle body damping valve, and fuel filter. Undercarriage Driver quality underneath with minimal surface rust and no errant fluids anywhere. The knuckles are dry and we note some scrapes on the frame rails and the coating removal leaves behind some surface rust. A single exhaust travels down the center tunnel then makes a sharp turn before entering a stock style muffler, then another quick turn to exist in the sculpted roll pan via a polished tip. Independent suspension on front and back consists of coil springs. Drive-Ability These cars are fun because they instantly feel like adult toys, and not the kind youre thinking of! Remember being 6 years old and getting a battery powered car? Same excitement. Thats the feeling Miatas evoke and why theyve been so successful. Theres nothing notably wrong with this car, it does everything well and all functional items work as expected. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Heres a well maintained, straight Miata with high mileage and plenty more to give. The clean interior is a bonus and so is that removable hardtop! Discover the fun and it daily or reserve it for club events or Sunday drives. You dont need a ton of room to store it nor a bunch of gas to keep it going.
