VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

Heres a situation that doesnt come up very often. This 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII rolled off the assembly some 30 years ago and has spent its entire life with the same family - and not just as a dormant future restoration project to take on someday, but while seeing active duty the whole time! Luckily, that family realized the importance of consistent maintenance and responsible driving, so this Lincoln is looking good, running strong and ready for its next chapter. The dark green exterior on this Mark VIII still looks sharp - take a lap around the car and youll see an even shine from front to back. Its body is still well-aligned, and shows no dings of note, with nice, even gaps between the panels and accompanying brightwork thats scuff-free and sits flush. As a 93, it holds the distinction of being the first generation of the Mark series to have been branded as a Lincoln and marked a significant about face for the model - after years of the Mark series being continually downsized, this VIII emerged a full five inches longer and four inches wider than its immediate predecessor. It also features a more modern appearance - notice how sparingly chrome trim was used on its exterior - but it still retains the spare tire contour on its decklid that the model came to be known for. Inside, the tan interiors surprisingly clean condition is another indicator of the attentive care this Lincoln has seen. Both the front buckets and rear bench seating still retain their original shape, with no flat spots in sight, and even under close inspection youll find no tears or frayed stitching on the leather surfaces. This is a roomy cabin - a byproduct of this generations increased width - and provides a very comfortable driving environment. Interior features include power door locks and windows, a tilt column, rear window defogger, cruise control and an AM/FM/CD stereo. For collision protection, there are driver and passenger side airbags on board. Smooth power steering makes this luxury cruiser easy to navigate. This Lincolns air conditioning components are all in place, but the system will need a bit of attention before returning to service. The fuel-injected 4.6-liter engine standing by beneath the hood is in strong running condition and marks another distinction that this Lincolns generation holds - its members are the first Ford Motor Company vehicles to be outfitted with a dual-overhead cam V8. The engine sits in a well-maintained compartment and is joined by a smooth shifting 4-speed automatic transmission. The engine fires right up, idles smoothly and accelerates without hesitation - this car really drives nicely. With an independent suspension at both ends - when it was first released, this Lincoln was also the only four-seat American car to be equipped with both rear-wheel drive and an independent rear suspension - its nimble around corners and wont suffer from annoying wheel hop on uneven surfaces. Power disc brakes at all four corners provide dependable stops. A glance below will reveal a rust-free underbody. Well-maintained over the years, this 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII would be a great acquisition for someone who appreciates a nostalgia-inducing ride, but also wants a worry-free driving experience.
