Classic Car Overview
For consignment, a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash with a title verified 150,984 actual miles. How to make your Splash a tidal wave? Dress it up as a 150mph plus drag racer complete with ladder bars and a parachute.
Exterior
Monochromatic coverage was a Splash theme, and so we find the Lapis Blue Metallic paint covering the bumpers, grille, and side mirrors. Our consignor added a matching hood scoop and period popular tail light covers, while the original cool graphic and strip run down the fender and door. Not to outdone, the hood scoop wears flames in the graphics same colors. Just about every possible automotive sticker cling to the sides of the truck while a rear wing holds to the back where we also find ladder bars, a parachute, dual exhaust, and a roll pan in place of a bumper. A sliding rear window overlooks a tonneau cover and an air filter in the scoop looks convincing. Staggered Weld DragLites and tires create a steep rake, aided by a 3 drop up front, and complete the look of this pro street wannabe and the exterior presents nicely and is imperfection free.
Interior
Standard Ford door panels greet us with patterns of gray and black plastic, a cloth insert, and carpeted kick panel and both are impeccably clean. Gray cloth buckets seats have 90s era graphics and the drivers seat shows a stain and small tear. A wood rimmed steering wheel leads to a wood trimmed dashboard with the most basic of gauges intended to prevent confusion for young buyers, no doubt. A Ford AM/FM/Cassette radio lives in the middle with an A/C panel below it. A huge tachometer is mounted to the dash and a cupholder has been added to the floor. There is no roll cage nor racing harness, just in case youre wondering.
Drivetrain
Ah ha! A standard engine is under the hood. This is, to the trucks credit, the largest engine option available on the Splash, a 4.0 liter V6, rated at 160 horsepower and fuel injected. Power is transferred from a four speed automatic to the Ford 8.8 rear with 3.08 gears. Power brakes are on board with discs in front and drums in the back.
Undercarriage
The rear continues the show with a mock quick change cover on the relatively clean underside. Theres plenty of surface rust but conditions are dry, and the exhaust is newer according to our consignor and the single pipe travels through a stock style muffler which lets out two tailpipes leading to polished tips. Suspension consists of coil springs in front with a 3 drop and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
We need a helmet to complete the look, but we bypass that detail and hit the test loop, noting that most of the trucks loudness is found in its appearance as the cabin actually provides a comfortable and relatively quiet environment. With skinnies up front, this is a straight line vehicle, but of course, totally streetable and capable as a weekend cruiser. Quality was job one at Ford and sure enough, all operational items on the truck work as they should. Now, if we can just find the parachute release. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Our consignor says newer plugs, wires, cap and computer have been added contributing to the trouble free ride. Wheelie bars and a parachute will get all kinds of attention but that stealthy exhaust will keep red light warriors wondering. Whether its work, school, or car shows, this truck is going to make a blue whale sized splash wherever you take it. Everywhere but the track, that is...
