Classic Car Overview
We have decided to part ways with our fun little Fox Body convertible. She's packing a 306 Windsor with GT40 aluminum heads, a forged Eagle rotating assembly and Cobra lower intake. Not impressed? Okay, well sitting atop that spicy little 306 is a Kenne Bell 2.1 liter "Blowzilla" supercharger that flows right through the matching "Flowzilla" upper intake.
If air goes in, you gotta get it out. The polished Mac shortie headers exhale into cat delete down pipes, through aggressive Flowmasters and out of some big, polished tips.
Of course, you can't just add all that airflow without adding some fuel to the mix, gotta keep it stoichiometric, and while Fox Bodies are light, you don't want them to be too lean. This fox is rocking a 340 LPH in tank pump, 42 lb injectors and a huuuuge cold air intake and pro MAF. No hot air, for real; this baby sucks cool air in through the inner fender well mounted air cleaner.
Back in the day, Fords EEC-IV was the cat's meow, but with that big dog blower atop the engine, we wanted more control. So, we replaced the 80s era processor with a fully tunable Megasquirt ECU and wideband 02. Now this 93 is calculating airflow and timing like a car made in the early 2000s!
You may see that T handle popping up from the center console and think Oh no, the dreaded Ford AOD slush box! Sad, right? Well not so slow, my friend, the factory power sucker has been replaced by a Monster SS AOD with wide ratios and snappy shifts. We know heat kills transmissions, so keeping that 4 speed cool is a large plate style transmission cooler. That Monsters output shaft is connected to a Ford racing aluminum driveshaft, which is spinning a 3.73 posi diff.
We certainly wouldn't run all of these drivetrain upgrades through a set of factory 4 lug wheels or try to stop it on some tiny factory drum brakes. This blown vert is sitting on 17 pony R wheels, which are held on with 5 lugs, because the spindles, axles and rear disc brakes were all harvested from one of those ugly, unloved SN95 Mustangs. We even made sure the parking brake works with the upgraded setup. Who even does that??
That 5 lug, disc brake-equipped, 3.73 geared, 8.8 posi is held in place by boxed control arms, and the whole car bounces on new Bilstein shocks/struts. We added a brand-new set of Ford lower control arms in the front, just to ensure the entire suspension is tight and responsive.
The two ends of this rust-free, Florida born drop-top are joined by a set of weld-in subframe connectors. With the new rack-and-pinion assembly and fat, sticky 17" Bridgestones, this fox hugs curves.
You read that right, this car is from Florida, and since it's been in Illinois it has never seen winter. This baby is BABIED.
As the old verts interior started showing its age, from years of top-down fun in the Florida sunshine, we decided to show it some love too. We opened up the LMR catalog and said yes! The floppy factory center console, with the typical broken ashtray lid, has been replaced with a cup holding, USB charging, I-phone ready unit from LMR, which feeds a Kenwood CD/MP3/USB stereo. There are also 6 Kicker speakers all around, with an MTX bass tube booming in the trunk. You can literally use your phone to bump Vanilla Ice while cosplaying Vanilla Ice, baby!
While we had the interior apart, we installed brand new door panels, a new IP bezel, auto-meter, A-pillar gauges (AF ratio, trans temp and boost/vacuum) new carpeting, new IP lamps, and some new switches.
We didn't just want to stop fighting UV fade inside, so we installed new head and taillights and lots of weather stripping. With the freshly painted body, this 80s baby looks factory fresh!
The air conditioning, cruise, power windows, power top, trunk release, and mirrors all work as good as they did in 1993.
I didn't think the wimpy 60A stock alternator was up to the task of keeping the lightning crisp while running all of the power options, the audio system and the electric cooling fan, so I added a 130A Ford 3G alternator and requisite wiring.
You might worry about the condition of a 32-year-old convertible top, but that's like, your hangup, man, because the top, motor, and hydraulic cylinders were replaced by Riggs brothers about 5 years ago. The top is still like new because this Fox is too pretty to sit outside, and is always stored indoors, under a soft car cover (which comes with). This pony car has seen less UV rays in the last 10 years than an Irish coal miner.
This car was built to be a fun cruiser that can be comfortably taken on a road trip and still hold its own when the road gets twisty. Even at over 30 years old, this car is so easy to drive that my wife drives this 'stang anytime she wants without a second thought. This baby sits under a cover all winter then, when summer comes, it fires off up like it was driven yesterday.
While the odometer reads 128,000, very little of this car hasn't been gone through or rebuilt since new. With all of the upgrades and replacement items, most of this Mustangs parts probably have 25,000 or less miles on them. I can't even describe all of the new goodies this car has in it, mostly because I've already exceeded the description limit on this website. I do have gobs of receipts though.
If you're looking to recapture the essence of the best the 80s had to offer, but turned up to 11, and want to get a sunburn while listening to White Snake and supercharger whine, then this blanco convertible is for you!
