This 1992 Porsche 911 C2 represents a distinctly thoughtful approach to the air-cooled 964, having been sharpened and tastefully modified by South African Porsche specialist, Dutchmann, as one of its lightweight Weekend Racer builds. Rather than disguising the 964 beneath retro bodywork or radically altering its character, Dutchmanns philosophy is to refine the qualities already inherent in the original car into more of an OEM+ car while maintaining ease of maintenance and reliability.. The result is an understated interpretation of the 964 that retains its unmistakable factory proportions while sharpening nearly every aspect of the driving experience.

At the heart of the build is a revised 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six that has been tastefully modified to enable the engine to breathe better, rev quicker and respond better. Rather than chasing an oversized horsepower figure that feels more Frankenstein than production, Dutchmann focused on making the drivetrain more responsive and engaging through reduced rotating mass and optimized gearing. A lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly allow the engine to rev more freely, while a short-throw shifter gives the gearbox a more immediate and mechanical feel. A 964 Cup exhaust completes the package with much more engaging sound and lighter weight materials.

The transmission was further refined with shorter third and fourth-gear ratios, allowing the engine to remain more consistently within its powerband and making the car significantly more responsive through the gears. Combined with the lighter drivetrain components, these changes give the 964 a noticeably more urgent character at real-world speeds while preserving the naturally aspirated delivery and mechanical involvement that make the air-cooled 911 so rewarding.

The Weekend Racer philosophy extends beyond the drivetrain. Weight reduction, carefully selected performance upgrades, and a more focused chassis setup work together to create a 964 that feels lighter, sharper, and more communicative without losing the usability or refinement that made the original car so compelling. The goal was never to overwhelm the car with power but to enhance its balance, responsiveness, and connection between driver and machine. To handle these improvements to the engine and drivetrain, the suspension is all new control arms, KW V3 suspension and better stabilizer bars. The complete package allows the car to be noticeably more playful and capable than a 964 C2, think an improved 964 RS but with A/C and a more compliant ride.

Visually, the car follows the same restrained philosophy with its custom color by Dutchmann displaying a subtle grey-green finish to accentuate the clean narrow-body 964 silhouette, while its lowered stance and period-inspired Carrera RS style wheels give it a purposeful appearance without overwhelming the original design. The overall presentation remains deliberately understated with each modification appearing as though it could have been conceived alongside the original car. The interior of the car is completely redone as well with Dutchmanns bespoke coachwork leather and German square weave carpet. It is a significant and classy upgrade to the interior and also reduces overall weight with revised door cards and lightweight bucket seats.

The result is a uniquely engaging interpretation of the 964 one built around lightness, gearing, response, and driver involvement rather than headline numbers. With its revised 3.6-liter engine, Cup racing exhaust, lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly, short-throw shifter, and revised gear ratios and suspension upgrades, this Dutchmann Weekend Racer represents a carefully considered evolution of the classic air-cooled Porsche formula.
