The Carrera RS is among the most sought-after variants of the type-964 Porsche 911. Essentially a road-legal version of the contemporary Carrera Cup race car, it is nearly 136 kilograms lighter than a standard Carrera Coup, thanks to thinner side glass, an aluminium bonnet, smaller battery, simpler wiring loom, lightweight door cards, minimal carpeting, and magnesium alloy wheels. Insulation and soundproofing were also removed, and the stereo was optional. Its 3.6-litre naturally aspirated M64/03 flat-six is more potent than the standard Carreras engine and drives the rear wheels through a racing clutch with a single-mass flywheel connected to a five-speed manual transaxle with ZF asymmetric limited-slip differential. To improve handling, the suspension was lowered and stiffened. These changes combined to create one of the most unfiltered and exhilarating driving experiences of its day.

Completed in September 1991, the example on offer possesses appealing pedigree as the 11th Carrera RS invoiced for series production and 15th in the VIN sequence. Wonderfully specified, the exterior is finished in Maritime Blue over a black interior with colour-matched cloth door pulls and seat shells. This vibrant shade served a specific purpose, as the vehicle was produced and originally owned and prepared by Porsche to be shown at the 1991 Frankfurt and Lisbon Motor Shows. Maritime Blue had been reintroduced to the Porsche lineup in 1991 and would certainly command attention from show attendees. After accruing roughly 20,000 kilometres, the Porshe was subsequently sold to Prince Karl Freidrich von Hohenzollern, current head of the House of Hohenzollern, for several years before entering the United Kingdom.

The vehicle is accompanied by owners books, a press release announcing the Carrera RS, a tool roll, and tyre inflation kit. Notably, a warranty book contains stamps confirming individual services were performed between 1992 and 2022. Among the invoices on file, the most recent dated, to December 2022, details several minor repairs and the fitment of a Porsche Techequiptment tow bar. The owner further reports the engine still shows within one per cent of specification on the leak-down check carried out by RPM and that, due to being put together for promotional purposes, the throttle response is greater than that of standard customer cars. Adding further desirability to the Carrera RS, a letter on file from Porsche Cars Great Britain confirms the engine, numbered 62N80508, is the matching unit.

A worthy successor to the legendary 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the type-964 Carrera RS ushered in a new era of stripped-down 911s that have remained in the lineup to this day. With its outstanding provenance, this example is worthy of a spot in any collection.
