VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

Supra MK3 1991 turbo VIN# JT2MA71N9M0156652
3.0L 7M-GTE twin cam 24 valve
5-Speed Manual transmission w/ Turbo
Sport Targa top
Power: windows, driver seat, mirrors, steering, ABS brakes
TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulation Suspension) control, cruise control, limited slip differential
Mileage under 160K (currently 159,761) (Timing Belt replaced at 143K)

Reason for selling: Owning and enjoying a Supra MRK3 is wonderful, but I don't drive it as much and I have other things that are keeping me busy - yard, house, garden, hobbies, etc.

About my TEMS buttons (SPORT / NORMAL). They were showing wear. I have stick-on special 3M labels on my buttons to "restore" the appearance of SPORT & NORMAL.

Blitz adjustable electronic turbo boost w/controller.
Tuned exhaust system.
Head gasket replaced at 147K miles: Head torqued as per Supra forum recommendations:
Head torqued to 70 ft/lbs, re-torqued after 564 miles to 72 ft/lbs. (important!) *
(* DO NOT use factory specs of 58 ft/lbs! - much too low! Main cause of BHG failures!)
Includes head rebuild, new timing belt, spark plugs, hoses, gaskets, sensors, & parts as needed. (over 50 items - $1915 in parts including $500 for head rebuild). (I have a full list of parts that were replaced, almost all bought from Cavendar Toyota). Motor started quickly after rebuild and ran beautifully smooth!
Competition clutch: Centerforce DF500100 replaced at 154K miles.
Dark window tint.
Matching blue leather boots on shifter and brake lever.
Pioneer DEH-P3300 CD/AM/FM Super tuner III 50w x 4.
Pioneer ipod interface CD-IB100ii (for playing ipod gen 1, 2, or 3).
AUX input interface CD-RB10 type (3.5mm headphone stereo plug).
(So DEH-P3300 unit can select AM/FM/CD/ipod/AUX).
Below stereo is a 1 DIN storage slot (for CDs or whatever) - or insert (removable) drawer for storing smaller items.
A/C converted to 134A at 159K miles w/ new compressor.
Battery replaced July, 2023.
ROH 17" wheels.
Tires: Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position 245/45R17 99W with 8½K miles on them.

Inside glove box is a small panel with:
Blitz turbo electronic boost controller
Supra voltmeter gauge (mounted w/ tilt for driver visibility)
(Supras w/o turbo have this gauge mounted in the dash - I had space in the panel so I added one)
Antenna control switch: Normal / Defeat (enable / disable extension)
The antenna defeat (antenna stays down) switch is great for reducing unnecessary wear since the antenna not needed for CD, ipod, AUX or most local radio stations.
And if a car cover is being used, accidentally extending the antenna could damage it.
(New antenna - Dec 2013)

Igniter connector in harness had poor connections: so color-coded spade connectors replaced that connector to insure reliable ignition circuitry to spark plugs. (see picture)
Oil / filter changed every 3K to 5K miles (since purchase at 102,916 miles)
Mobil 1 10W-40 High Mileage; Fram XG3614
Transmission: Amzoil 75W90 at 154K miles
Differential: Amzoil 75W90 at 157K miles
Clutch master cylinder & slave cylinder replaced @ 158, 904
(New oil & filter at 159,500)

Included in glove box:
Supra owner's manual
Pioneer stereo manual
Blitz turbo controller manual
Targa top wrench
Extra: (if you want it): heavy duty car cover (water & dust protect).
Also included: oil filter wrench: I found a special oil filter wrench that works great for the Supra (tight filter location) and makes this task easier. So I'm including it with the car.
I'm including an ipod (8GB) with the Supra. It has 1469 songs and 237 different artists. Maybe you'll like it. Mix of best cuts from my collection of CDs: from Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, George Strait, Manhatten Transfer, Reba, Sheryl Crow, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Boston, Alison Krauss, Crystal Gayle, Roches, CSNY, Chicago, Abba to ZZtop, etc etc. 4 days of music (I leave on shuffle).
