Classic Car Overview

1991 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1LE - One of 23: R7U Canadian Players Challenge Car - 35k Miles (56k Kilometers Shown) - 1LE Performance Package - 5.0L V8 - 5 Speed Manual Gearbox - GM Canada Documentation and PHS Letter (Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1991 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1LE on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, its possible that youve only seen some of our many photographs of the car due to third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 150 photographs, as well as a short start-up and walk-around video, and a link to the Trans Am 1LEs accident-and-damage-free, very-low-mileage Carfax history report, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.) A rare example of GMs Road-Race Option - Hemmings, November 2006 Hemmings told the Trans Am 1LE story: ...when Pontiac built the 1LE cars, the Camaro also came with this option, and it included four-wheel disc brakes sourced from the Corvette, an aluminum driveshaft and spare tire, baffled fuel tank, specific rate shocks and springs and thicker anti-roll bars. Most importantly, air conditioning was not available. That was GMs way of limiting 1LE sales to serious road racers. Hagerty Media added this: Although the 1LE option code is most associated with Chevys Camaro, Pontiac also sold Firebirds with the 1LE package, and it was available for the first time on the 1988 Formula and Trans Am. Just as on the IROC-Z Camaro, 1LE set up the Firebird for SCCA Showroom Stock racing and included larger brakes, stiffer suspension, a lighter aluminum driveshaft, fuel tank baffling to prevent fuel starvation during hard cornering, and other modifications. It was available with the 350/auto or 305/manual powertrains and air conditioning was (supposedly) not offered because these cars were supposedly headed for the racetrack. The 1LE Firebird is extremely rare and many didnt survive the perils of competition. Offered here is a 1991 Pontiac Trans Am 1LE (code R7U) in Arctic White (10) over Gray Custom Cloth (82C). This purpose-built Trans Am was one of just 23 crafted by General Motors to compete in the Canadian Players Challenge Series (similar to Showroom Stock in the U.S.-for more details on the race series, clip and paste the following link in your devices browser: http://www.playerschallengeseries.ca/First.htm). The cars history and build data is very well-documented. Built in Van Nuys, California and delivered to its first owner at Brian Finch Pontiac Buick, Ltd. In London, Ontario, on July 16, 1991, the 1LEs odometer now reads 56,232 kilometers, roughly 35,000 miles, or fewer than 1,200 miles per-year since new. A full list of the cars options and equipment is included on the GM Canada build sheet included in the gallery. The cars exterior Arctic White paint retains a near-new appearance overall. Minor flaws include dings on the nose, and a scrape on the back edge of the drivers door. Body-panel fit is excellent, and the sheet metal is free of damage, with the exception of a minor dent on the right-front fender. (To best assess the paint-and-body condition, be sure to view close-up photos of the car included in the gallery.) The lower-front aero wings, hood louvers, racing-style side mirrors, and rear-deck spoiler are all in pristine condition. Cabin glass-including the large, tinted hatch window-is clear and free of cracks or other damage. Lighting lenses-including the dark-tinted, full-width taillight trim-is similarly without flaw. BBS -style, black, 16-inch aluminum wheels (with polished lips) are wrapped in BFGoodrich g-force performance tires. Inside, the gray color theme plays out on the vertically pleated, gray fabric seat upholstery, two-tone gray door trim, gray lap-and-shoulder belts, and gray cabin-and-cargo-area carpeting. The dashboard, console, and steering wheel are black. Surface condition of the soft and hard surfaces in the cabin is uniformly excellent; ther
