Conceived during Japans high-performance boom of the late 1980s, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was the companys determination to compete with the worlds finest grand touring sports cars. Developed in partnership with Chrysler, where it was also sold as the Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo, the all-new platform showcased Mitsubishis engineering prowess through an advanced blend of technology, luxury, and performance. Rather than relying solely on raw horsepower, engineers focused on creating a sophisticated all-weather sports car capable of challenging European rivals while remaining comfortable enough for everyday use.

For the 1991 model year, the flagship VR-4 came equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre DOHC 24-valve V-6 producing 300 horsepower and 307 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox and a full-time all-wheel-drive system. It also featured four-wheel steering, electronically controlled suspension, active exhaust, and active aerodynamics, making it one of the more technologically advanced production automobiles of its era. These innovations gave the VR-4 remarkable grip, stability, and high-speed composure that few competitors could match.
