1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

This fun car has been loved and driven only by me: its original and only owner since 1991. I planned on keeping this car forever the moment I drove her off the dealer's lot. But now I'm 73 and I believe I can part with her now. Every time I wash and wax this car, the less I want to sell. So if you come to see her in person, she may not be clean.

Because I have so many people offering way over $2800, I am raising the initial selling price. I'm not here to make a buck, but to find someone who will cherish this car and bring her back to life. I'll lower the final selling price when I select the right person to become the second owner. Thank you for understanding my situation.

For years now, I have endured nothing but incompetent service people who didn't know much about servicing a 1991 Mitsubishi 3.0L DOHC 24V engine. Although they promised they could do it all. Incompetent work done by young inexperienced mechanics who Googled any problems that came up, and the resulting service usually ended breaking something else. As was the case when I had my scheduled 120,000 mile timing belt maintenance visit to the auto shop. A young mechanic believed the engine was non-interference and started it without tightening the new timing belt. It slipped and resulted in a bent valve, totally ruining the performance of the engine. There is no white or blue smoke out of the exhaust, just bad engine vibration and horrible performance. The car is drivable, but I would suggest towing it so as not abuse the engine any further. Since the damage was done, less than ten (10) miles have been driven on the car.

As it would cost over $2500 to repair the engine now, I've given up on spending any more money to keep this lovely money pot. I'd love to have this car running like she did before, but Ive spent well over $4000 on parts and labor just in the past few years, and its time to part with her. Here's a list of recent replacement parts with little or low mileage on them: AC compressor, starter motor, crankshaft position sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel injection relay, upper pulley, fuel injection pressure regulator, idle air control valve, mass air flow sensor, Two (2) used OEM but refurbished engine computers, new OEM power antenna, Gates Power Grip timing belt kit installed ($250 with 10 miles on it), Optimus Jell Cell battery, NEW Yokohama Advan Tires ($700) with less than 50 miles and a fresh wheel alignment on a car that cant be driven. Damn.

This car's Mitsubishi Diamond original paint has lasted through the years but has finally begun to flake into history. Body-wise, 35 years of parking lot assaults on her body have resulted in many dings, scratches, kicks from cowboy boots and jealous types who never grew up. In 2019 Mother Nature got her licks in with a night of hell, dropping ping pong and baseball size hail stones on her. She has the dimples all over her body and frankly needs a total bodywork by a professional auto body man and painter. The car has never been in an accident except for the hail and parking lot door bangers. And this tidbit of useless information. The original disk brake pads are still on this car. And only two times had this car been driven over 120 mph for a few seconds. And in 35 years of driving Miss Mitsi, I never received a speeding ticket. I did get 1 ticket for following too closely. (But she was a gorgeous blond and I just had to follow her.)

The interior is clean, but 35 years old. Protected with 35 years of Amour All. Dash is in excellent condition. No cracking. Leather seats except for the drivers still look good. Passenger side seat looks almost new. Door panels are fair, but need replacing as summer heat has taken its toll through the years.
This awesome classic Japanese beauty is being offered to someone who can return this car to its original glory. Someone who can really work on this once great 3.0L Mitsubishi engine. She has a number of very minor wonky anomalies which can be repaired with little problem or cost. But this car is basically now a project car, due to the bent valve ruining the performance of the engine. I wont let her go to someone who cant appreciate this car as much as I have for the past 35 years. Can you blame me?
