Classic Car Overview
1991 Land Rover Defender 90
For consignment, a 1991 Land Rover Defender 90 with a title verified 8,924 actual miles. A right hand drive rig that was imported to the U.S. from the U.K. in 2025 prior to which it was refurbished beginning in 2023.
Exterior
Two prominent colors decorate this Defender beginning with the paint that is Ruby Red Metallic and the top surfaces in black, all on a body designed of right angles that will make G-wagon owners envious. Theres lots of glass up top and the tinting helps temper the greenhouse heat and visibility in a stylish way. Lets talk about stylish, those black fender flares create the right balance, embellished even more by the 20-inch Wolfrace black wheels, here running 255/60R20s with a late 2022 date code. The front grille and LED headlight surround also offer black contrast and theres not much cooler on the street or trail than the clear, circle marker lights that allow one to recognize the rig immediately. Overall, the paint and body is in great shape. Imperfections include scratches and crazing on the black roof, various chips, inclusions, air bubbles, cracking, and evidence of some filler on the red, clear coat peeling, and some rust on the bumper bracket.
Interior
Molded gray plastic door panels are emblematic of this period and are relatively clean and simple. Inside, the front race style buckets seats are tall and clean and dressed diamond stitched vinyl and both present in great shape. In comparison to your pedestrian Range Rover, the battle proven Defender is sparse by comfort standards with hard plastic surfaces, a basic instrument panel in front of the right sided driver, a tall shifter on a floor with low pile carpet mats. Theres a AM/FM radio with Bluetooth on board and a tall center console that provides an armrest for each occupant and a pair of cupholders. In the back, two benches run north and south and if you have kids, or kids at heart, this is where the fun is and unlike the enlisted versions, its fully carpeted. On the tall ceiling, a soft cloth headliner resides, finishing off this posh SUV.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 2.5 liter inline 4 cylinder turbo diesel rated at 107 horsepower and fuel injected. A R380 5-speed manual transmission is behind it and sends power to the front and rear with 3.54 gears. The bay presents in driver quality and the hood is lined with heat and acoustic shields.
Undercarriage
Clean driver quality describes conditions underneath where youll find power disc brakes on all four wheels, connected by ball claw axles. A single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and exits behind the left rear wheel and suspension includes coil spring front and rear with radius arms in the bow and a 4 link in the stern.
Drive-Ability
Step one, hop up into the tall cab. Step two, adjust your brain to drive a RHD car from the UK, (easy!). Step three, turn the key and use the LEFT hand to shift gears. Whew! Around the test loop, the commanding view and torquey diesel makes for an enjoyable trek on the blacktop and, we imagine, off. Other than the passenger side wiper not working, the spindle does move, just not the arm, all functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Defender 90s are a hot commodity in the specialty car world, selling pretty consistently and often quickly. If youre a G-wagon shopper, consider this upmarket version of a family friendly SUV with military roots. People around you will be looking up to you, in more ways than one, and isnt that what great, capable utility vehicles are all about?
