Classic Car Overview

Reservations are now being accepted for this exceptionally rare 1991 factory original Spinnaker Blue Metallic.

Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman investment-grade 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Final Edition is scheduled to undergo a comprehensive Classic Gentleman frame-off mechanical and cosmetic restoration, with anticipated completion in the first quarter of 2028.

Repaint available in the original factory Spinnaker Blue color or commissioned in the exterior color of your choosing, with Tan or Cordovan leather interior.

A Particularly Rare Grand Wagoneer

During all the decades Classic Gentleman has been restoring and preserving Grand Wagoneers, this is the first factory-original Spinnaker Blue Final Edition ever to enter our inventory.

Spinnaker Blue Metallic was an exceptionally rare color in the final year of original Grand Wagoneer production. Various sources have cited production figures ranging from 25 or fewer examples to fewer than 100, with other estimates falling somewhere in between or slightly above.

The exact production figure remains difficult to establish with certainty.

What is not in dispute is that Spinnaker Blue Metallic was the rarest color offered during the rarest production year of the original Grand Wagoneer.

And while Spinnaker Blue makes this particular Grand especially noteworthy, the next owner will have the final say. She may be commissioned in Spinnaker Blue Metallic, Hunter Green, Colorado Red, Bright White, or virtually any exterior color of the buyers choosing, paired with either Tan or Cordovan leather.

Documented History

The 128,300 miles shown on the odometer are confirmed as original by CARFAX, representing an average of approximately 3,500 miles per year over her life.

CARFAX also reports no accidents.

Perhaps more importantly for a Grand Wagoneer destined for a comprehensive restoration, the vast majority of her miles were accumulated in road-salt-free Nevada, Utah, and Georgia, with her final years and relatively limited subsequent mileage spent as a summer vehicle in Michigan.

For the collector who appreciates the significance of the 1991 Final Edition, the rarity of Spinnaker Blue, and the opportunity to have a Grand Wagoneer restored from the frame upward by Classic Gentleman, this is an unusually compelling candidate.

Why buy from a Grand Wagoneer specialist?

Our entire focus is Grand Wagoneers, and we know these unique vehicles inside and out. When you purchase a Classic Gentleman Wagoneer, it has been thoroughly inspected, sorted, and serviced by professional mechanics, some with more than forty years of Wagoneer experience.

We purchase fine examples from a variety of sources, including other dealers and private owners. We are often told by a seller, My Jeep is excellent and needs nothing. And while that may be entirely sincere, after doing this for as long as we have, we know better than to expect a 30-plus-year-old vehicle to arrive without a considerable amount of sorting. Even a lovingly cared-for Grand Wagoneer is an aging automobile, and its mechanical components, seals, electrical systems, finishes, and other details have inevitably experienced the passage of time.

When a Classic Gentleman Grand Wagoneer arrives at your home, it should be a special occasion and our goal is for it to arrive looking beautiful, operating properly, and ready to be enjoyed. Yes, our vehicles are sold as-is. But as you will see from the detailed documentation accompanying your Grand, considerable care and attention have gone into preparing it for its next chapter.

Our objective is simple: we want the joy and enthusiasm of Grand Wagoneer ownership to begin the moment you take delivery, and we want that enthusiasm to remain for years to come.

And now, the honest truth about Grand Wagoneers

Here is perhaps the most honest paragraph you will ever read from a restoration house/dealer: in some ways, these Jeeps were difficult automobiles even when they were new.

Sometimes we wonder if automotive engineering was more of a hobby with certain Jeep executives. Consider this: the Grand Wagoneer was the last American-produced vehicle to retain a carburetor. Installing such an antiquated piece of technology on a vehicle that was still being produced into the early 1990s is a perfect illustration of just how primitive these Jeeps could be compared with other vehicles of their era.

That is why we now automatically upgrade and modernize every Grand Wagoneer we restore with modern fuel injection, eliminating the troublesome carburetor and, with it, the need for the next owner to repeatedly visit his local Jeep service advisor asking him to coax the thing back into proper adjustment.

But in many other respects, we cannot simply rewrite the way these vehicles were engineered and manufactured. We are, to some degree, always working within the limitations of the original factory design. Outdated technology, old-fashioned manufacturing methods, complicated vacuum systems, primitive electrical architecture, and other quirks are simply part of the Grand Wagoneer story.

Did you know that you can remove the grille from a final-year 1991 Grand Wagoneer and still see, behind it, the round openings designed for the headlights used on the original 1963 Wagoneer? That is just one small example of how much of the original architecture remained with these vehicles through the years.

So please understand what you are buying. Even a beautifully restored Grand Wagoneer will require more maintenance and periodic servicing than a modern automobile. That is simply the truth, fellow enthusiast. These are vintage vehicles, and they should be treated as such.

If you require the completely trouble-free, appliance-like ownership experience of a modern automobile, we would candidly suggest that a vintage Grand Wagoneer may not be for you.

But if you can accept the occasional quirk, the need for maintenance, and the responsibility that comes with owning an old automobile, there is very little else quite like a Grand Wagoneer. In fact, much of what makes them so desirable today the old-school engineering, commanding presence, unmistakable styling, and wonderfully dated character is precisely what makes them so much fun to own.
