VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

This 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo has been exceptionally well maintained since I purchased it from the original owner in 1998. It has always been enthusiast-owned, carefully maintained, and preserved with long-term ownership in mind.

Ownership & Storage History

19982001: Regularly driven and meticulously maintained.
20012011: Stored in a temperature-controlled garage during my deployment.
20112017: Primarily driven to monthly Cars & Coffee events and occasional enthusiast outings.
20172023: Again stored in a temperature-controlled garage during my deployment.

The vehicle has never been neglected and has always received routine maintenance and preventative care.

Comprehensive Engine Refresh (2016)

In 2016, the engine underwent a complete refresh using genuine OEM Nissan parts. The engine was completely disassembled down to the bare block and professionally rebuilt to factory specifications.

Engine Rebuild Included

Engine completely disassembled to the bare block
Cylinder bores professionally honed
Crankshaft professionally machined
New OEM piston rings
New OEM main and rod bearings
New OEM seals and gaskets throughout
New OEM turbochargers
New OEM engine wiring harness
New OEM water pump
New OEM timing belt
New OEM sensors throughout the engine
New OEM coolant, vacuum, and engine hoses

The engine was carefully reassembled to factory specifications, resulting in a smooth, reliable powertrain that reflects the level of care this vehicle has received throughout its ownership.

Suspension Restoration (2016)

To restore the vehicles factory ride quality and handling characteristics, the suspension was completely renewed using genuine OEM Nissan components, including all major suspension parts.

Performance Upgrades (2016)

During the engine refresh, several tasteful performance upgrades were also installed:

Stillen performance clutch
Stillen cat-back exhaust system
Jim Wolf Technology (JWT) performance ECU chip
White-face instrument cluster gauges
Underdrive crank pulley

Maintenance & Improvements

2023

The following preventative maintenance was completed:

New timing belt
New water pump
New timing belt tensioners
New OEM-style 370cc fuel injectors

2025

Additional major maintenance and restoration included:

Brand-new Nissan OEM 1999 J-Spec 5-speed transmission
New clutch master cylinder
New clutch slave cylinder
New power steering rack and pinion assembly
New alternator
All four brake calipers professionally rebuilt
New brake rotors on all four corners
New factory-style rear spoiler
New front lip spoiler
New tires
New A/C blower motor

Due to the vehicles age, it also received a high-quality repaint to restore and preserve its exterior appearance.

2026

To continue preserving the vehicles originality and reliability, the following items were replaced:

New Interstate battery
All exterior weather moldings and weatherstripping replaced with genuine OEM Nissan parts to restore the factory appearance while ensuring proper sealing against wind and water intrusion.

Audio System

Around 2011, the factory audio system was upgraded with:

Infinity speakers installed throughout the interior
Kenwood flip-face CD receiver

The aftermarket amplifier was later removed to create additional trunk space for storing the removable T-top roof panels. As a result, the audio system is currently disconnected and will require the installation of a compatible amplifier and reconnection to restore functionality.

Includes two original Nissan keys
Air conditioning blows cold
Heater operates properly
Power seat function correctly

Summary

Over nearly three decades of ownership, this 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo has received extensive preventative maintenance, thoughtful upgrades, and careful preservation. The majority of major mechanical work has been completed using genuine OEM Nissan components whenever available.

This Z32 has spent much of its life in climate-controlled storage during my deployments and has always been maintained with long-term ownership in mind. It represents an exceptionally well-preserved example of Nissans iconic Twin Turbo and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Buyers Note

This is a 36-year-old classic vehicle, not a brand-new car. While it has been exceptionally well maintained, extensively serviced, and carefully preserved throughout its ownership, normal signs of age and use should be expected. As with any classic vehicle, there may be minor cosmetic imperfections or age-related characteristics that do not affect its overall performance or reliability.

The vehicle is being represented honestly and accurately and is an outstanding example of a well-cared-for, enthusiast-owned 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.
