Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys Miami event, 27 - 28 February 2025.
$350,000 - $450,000 USD

  • One of approximately 300 built; a quality drivers example of the legendary Rambo Lambo
  • Believed to be a three-owner vehicle; delivered new to Germany
  • Menacing double black color scheme with distinctive, red-piped seats
  • Fitted with a very rare factory optional rear luggage compartment
  • Showing just 22,657 km (14,078 mi.) at cataloguing time

Few could have anticipated the imposing sight of a six-foot-tall, nearly three-ton, V-12 powered, four-wheel-drive behemoth at the 1986 European Motor Show Brussels much less one appearing on the Lamborghini stand. But then, Lamborghini was never one to follow convention, and few of its models if any embody this free-thinking approach more completely than the fantastically idiosyncratic LM002.

Powered by a version of the mighty Countach V-12 engine, the LM002 featured a tubular steel chassis clad with aluminum and fiberglass panels, which encompassed a luxurious interior with air conditioning, electric windows, and full leather trim. A ZF five-speed manual gearbox transmitted the engines generous 444 horsepower to the road, while switchable front and rear differentials allowed for two- and four-wheel drive, ensuring that the LM002 could tackle all road surfaces in any environment. Performance was impressive for a vehicle of its size, weight, and form factor, with a 0 60 mph time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph and a fuel tank of some 290 liters (76.6 gallons) onboard to sate its prodigious thirst. Produced from 1986 through 1993, only about 300 or so are said to have been built.

This late-production LM002 was originally delivered new to Germany for a gentleman named Pasqual Albeda. He would cherish the unique Lamborghini SUV until 2018 when it was offered at an auction in Essen, Germany. In April 2024, the vehicle would change hands again to its third and most recent caretaker. Sparingly used over the decades, just 22,657 kilometers (14,078 miles) showed on the odometer at the time of cataloguing.

A fantastically menacing coat of glossy black paint covers the angular exterior of this imposing machine. Inside, the soft black leather interior features bright red piping along the edges of the sporty bucket seats, which coordinate with red accents on the lower door trim. Attractive wood across the dashboard and door cards further elevates the sense of luxury. Notably a very rare optional factory luggage compartment can be found in the rear bed.

Obviously well-cared for over the years, this LM002 presents in wonderful condition overall. Invoices on file from June 2019 confirm that the brakes and transmission were serviced. Electrical faults were also repaired at this time and a set of proper Pirelli Scorpion tires fitted. An additional invoice from May 2020 indicates that the Lamborghini received cosmetic refreshing. In addition to the service paperwork, a set of owners manuals, including a warranty book, accompany the sale.

Combining characteristic power and boundless versatility with flagship luxury, the groundbreaking LM002 is the progenitor of the high-performance SUVs so popular these days and would make a wonderful complement to any collection of Lamborghinis or significant supercars, sure to bring a smile to the face of marque connoisseurs and off-roading enthusiasts. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/mi25/.
