The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was introduced for the 1990 model year as a high-performance version of the fourth-generation Corvette, commonly known as the C4. Developed with significant involvement from Lotus, the ZR1 featured the all-aluminum 5.7-liter LT5 V8, which used four camshafts and 32 valves to produce exceptional performance. The engine was built by Mercury Marine and featured advanced technology that helped make the ZR1 substantially more powerful than the standard Corvette. Chevrolet paired the LT5 with a specialized ZF 6-speed manual transmission, while the ZR1 also received upgraded suspension, brakes, and wider bodywork to complement its performance.
